My Plan for Sacrifice - from dKos
I just read this over at dKos and I think it's a good idea. I wanted to make sure DUers had a chance to read this too. This seems like a progressive response to horrific national tragedy.

My Plan for Sacrifice

Right now, with the humanitarian situation on the Gulf Coast already worse than imaginable, anyone who can - anyone with any human decency - must be called upon to make a sacrifice and help out our fellow men and women.

So here's my proposal. I don't even think it'll be that painful. I'm just not going to be giving any holiday gifts when December comes around this year. Instead, I'm going to give whatever I might have spent on presents to hurricane relief efforts instead. Goodness knows that the Gulf Coast refugees need it more than anyone I know needs a new video game or handbag.

I hope you'll consider joining me. I think your friends and family will understand if you explain your decision to them - and they might in turn be motivated to do the same. I realize it may be a challenge to tell your kids they won't be getting gifts, but if you think they won't understand, then give them presents anyway and just curtail your gift-giving to other adults. (I bet they will understand, though, if you explain that someone else is really in need, and that they'll still get birthday gifts and holiday presents next year.)

Rather than wait until the end of the year, I'm going to give what I can right away - people are badly in need right now. Of course, if you want to follow this plan but it's not possible for you to give right now, then by all means give when you can. (And I realize that if this idea were to catch on, I'm sure retailers would grumble. But if more money gets spent this year at hardware stores instead of toy stores, well, that's something I'd gladly see happen.)

2. I think that's what we should all do - except
I will have to give my parents some money to help them with their medications, since my dad is a veteran of the navy and the army and served on the front lines of Korea, he doesn't have the money he needs to buy both of their meds because the company that he retired from took their prescription drug plans away and lord knows, our vets aren't taken care of. And, of course, I also have to help my daughter with my grandson's formula, which is $200 a month. So, along with the gas prices to get back and forth from work, I will give what little I have left to these poor people, because it truly breaks my heart. I hate this administration,

I am listening to the Anderson Cooper show, and that Dem Senator, what's her name(?), she is a as much of an uncaring bitch as the rePukes are. "I have family here that lost their homes" "We're doing everything that we can". "Believe me Anderson, I understand". "I might sound like a politician". Was anyone else listening to that? And, what got into Anderson Cooper? I think that seeing the devastation and horror first hand is making him into a real human. He is actually downing the government for this. What do you think? He's actually CRYING!! ARe you all watching???

And I am sorry for going on so long, but I almost can't stand what is happening in this country - the richest country in the world!!!

What is happening here???
