Report from Charity Hospital: "trash cans being used for human waste"
**Please excuse the choppy wording**..I am typing as I listen to WWL Internet stream and a reporter is speaking to a doc there.

Reporter had spoke with Charity hospital doc:

Waste cans for human waste, no electric, 210 patients still there,
staff/family number at 1,000.

Food: rationing, only canned fruits/vegetables left, stored food in basement got flooded out.

Staff frustrated that no one is evacuating them, single evac from today was from **staff** phoning for help and arranging the evac. per doc "it's not supposed to happen that way".

Patients scared/frustrated.

Vent patients can't be monitered, they were evacuated to NO airport, were turned away when they asked to land, they were then sent to Baton Rouge.

-----------
A previous report said that there were snipers at one hospital when a helo tried to land, the staff refused to come out to the helo because of snipers..even though the hospital conditions are horrible, they still didn't go to the helo.

Reporter found chopper pilot at the airport, sitting by his chopper, crying over what was going on at the hospitals evac attempts.

1. More details. . .

Hospitals are trying to evacuate," said Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Cheri Ben-Iesan, spokesman at the city emergency operations center. "At every one of them, there are reports that as the helicopters come in, people are shooting at them. There are people just taking pot shots at police and at helicopters, telling them, 'You better come get my family.'"

Richard Zuschlag, president of Acadian Ambulance Service Inc., described the chaos at a suburban hospital.

"We tried to airlift supplies into Kenner Memorial Hospital late last evening and were confronted by an unruly crowd with guns, and the pilots refused to land," he said.

"My medics were crying, screaming for help. When we tried to land at Kenner, my pilots got scared because 100 people were on the helipad and some of them had guns. He was frightened and would not land."
