1. it's completely sick
how many reports have we heard today of FEMA stopping rescue efforts?

I think that was at least 5?

How many more are not making the media.

Give me a break that was the suburbs and it's underwater with no reports
of any sort of violence.

It's like sublminal genocide.

6. They should get some of those brave Swift Boat Veterans for Truth
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 07:05 PM by 1932
to take those boats into N.O. It would help them with their spin on how it's a jungle in there and the victims are the perpetrators.

4. Spiral effect. Will cause anger and violence which will be used to
justify doing less.

I'm startign to really wonder about all the DU'ers who've been feeding the looting/shooting paranoia.

5. Stopping boat rescues for their "safety"
I don't fucking believe this. Anywhere something is getting done, FEMA comes in and stops it.

There are thousands of people who are still in these homes, they pose no threat to anyone, they are mostly old people and people with children.

FEMA is committing crimes against humanity.

9. It's their excuse to cover the fact they still are not prepared to do
the job they are tasked for. Someone must be blamed to cover their incompetence...hance, the victims.

10. And the boats were those of experienced rescuers of California
What better could they ask for. This decision is one of willful negligence.

11. I notice help from CA came before federal help. Today is the day for me.
This is the day when a realistic urgent response should have appeared.

If CA fire departments can get there by today. Then the Feds should have gotten there by today too.

18. They are sending in 1400 Natl Guard troops a day to NO,

according to news articles. I think they have been too damned slow in responding but they are finally sending people. And I don't know why they aren't getting in more food and water. It's horrendous.

As for security, people have been shooting at the helicopters containing rescue workers trying to evacuate people from the hospitals. Choppers haven't been able to land on helipads.

A small number of armed thugs are really causing problems, probably people who were in gangs before this -- I know that you know about the gangs in NOLA.

I'm reading the Times-Picayune site.

He seems to be on TV every second on every show giving interviews instead of doing something.

15. Xultar, I know you're heartbroken. FEMA rescuers aren't armed or armored
it is really true that there are some thugs shooting people.

It's simply not policy anywheres in the world to send unarmed rescuers into life threatening situations like that.

The answer is that the armed NG and Marines should have been stationed & ready Monday morning for deployment Monday afternoon to keep the peace.

I am wishing you were here to give you a hug,

19. These people are obviously willing to take their chances....
to try to save people. They're offering the boats. They've seen the reports, they know there are risks.

The "security" angle is a cop-out. Bet on it.
