Anderson Cooper of CNN just nailed Senator Mary Landrieux on live TV
Senator Landrieux was going on and on and on about how she thanked former President Bush, thanked President Clinton, thanked FEMA, thanked Governor Blanco, thanked the National Guard...for their excellent response to the storm to the point I was getting sick.

Then Anderson Cooper interrupted her and said

"excuse me Senator but after 4 days of seeing dead bodies and sewage in the streets I and I'm sure a lot of Americans have a have a hard time seeing politicians like yourself congratulating each other about what a good job they're doing..."

It is so rare to see a politician get what they deserve that it was a priceless moment.

I got it on tape through my computer.

and that is not a compliment.

she didn't bat an eye, she was totally sympathetic to Andersen Cooper and told him she understood his frustration and shared it, blah blah blah

Then at the end of the interview she had the chutzpah to thank Cooper profusely for everything he was doing, about 3-4 times!

it was an impressive display

Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 07:05 PM by mikelewis
than any one else. She has harped and bitched at congress for more money and finally, in the last energy bill, she threatened her own version of the "nuclear option" with the Senators from Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana if the congress didn't give those states royalties from off shore drilling. Guess what, she got it but it turns out it was a day late and a dollar short. She fought heroically for those people and she deserves gratitude.

On edit: She is cute too.

12. Is it just me?
All of the politicians seem so friggin' condescending. Their attitude seems to be, 'Oh, you stupid people have no idea how difficult the logistics are in something like this. But we're working really hard and deserve to be praised for our efforts.'

That's the vibe I get from them, anyway.

"condescending" really describes the politicians well, but it's only part of their problem which is a lot deeper.

Ever notice that everytime there's some kidnapping or murder, some 911, some big crime somewhere, all these public officials hold news conferences taking turns to congratulate each others' professionalism and cooperation between different agencies, etc. (it just never ends)

It's so bad they forget what the story is about and make themselves the subject of the story.

That they go on like that is because they're condescending, figuring us too stupid to get it.

of their Walter MItty take on Iraq, all the more powerful didn't it? It seems all they'd ever heard as senators is how wise and wonderful they are, albeit mostly from each other. It just couldn't happen! Or could it....? They're probably still trying to figure out if it was a bad dream. Hey, there's no official written record of it.

Did anyone see them today. Bush senior, Clinton and the Chimp.

Senior was complaining about how everyone is criticizing his son and this administration, and Clinton propped his hand up to the bottom of his chin, and gave senior a stare as if to say: "Your son and this administration ARE assholes."

I fully agree with the criticism of the Bush administration but...his criticism of Landrieu was out of line and tasteless

Her state, her constituents are dependent on the federal government for any help that finally gets in there. It does no good whatsoever for her to badmouth Bush now. She is simply doing what she can to get help to her fellow Louisianians.

And even though Senator Landrieux is doing her best, sometimes you need to ask the hard questions to a politician to snap them out of the trance they are in when they spin the mantra about how hard they are working to get the job done.

60. Give her a damn break
Landrieux has been railing for years in the Senate about the funding for flood control in LA, with nobody listening. Now, I'm sure she'd love to tear BushCo. and new one on national TV, but I'm also pretty sure she's well aware of the lengths they'll go to to exact revenge on their enemies. At a time like this, where she needs any and all the help she can get, now is not the time for her, in particular, to be picking a fight on national tv.

This is very personal for her and I'm sure she's mad as hell and well aware of the incompetency and downright negligence of the Bush administration.
