... on the Native American Rights Fund website. Anyone know any more recent developments? When will the administration learn that no means no? No drilling ANWR!

------------------

Help the Alaska Gwich段n Nation protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) from being written into the 2004 National Energy Bill.

Senator Pete Domenici (R-NM), the Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resource Committee, is writing a final draft of a national energy bill that favors oil exploration and drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

The Gwich段n Nation is an Athabascan tribe that lives along the migration route that the Porcupine caribou take on their way to their calving grounds in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska.

Many national environmental groups, have helped the Gwich段n Nation Steering Committee defeat proposed amendments in 2002 and 2003 to open the Refuge. They have stopped the threat of pro-drilling in the past and we can do it again for the prosperity of the Gwich段n Nation!

"The fate of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is the fate of the Gwich段n Nation," says Luci Beach, who is the Executive Director of the Gwich段n Steering Committee headquartered in Fairbanks, Alaska. "If the Arctic Refuge is sacrificed to meet the high energy consumption needs of the U.S., the Gwich段n Nation will not be able to continue our ancestral way of life and pass it on to our future generations as we have since time immemorial."

Drilling proponents are working furiously to obtain the 60 Senate votes needed to overcome a threatened filibuster that will decide the future of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge forever.
