i mean, that's really a pathetic ratio.

come on people...exercise your franchise.

sheeesh...i hope DUers are better about elections than they are about rules changes.....

1. from another thread
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=456312

btw, I'm not voting.
I can deal with however it comes out.
At the risk of getting my butt blistered, it seems that there has been an influx of folks who are just too emotional, or juvenile, or passionate, or whatever to hold a rational discussion without getting personal and starting the name calling. Civility, like morality, is hard to legislate.
Seems to be more pontificating going on also.
Just my humble opinion, but I get to have one, right?
Good luck.

2. There aren't 30000 of us...yet
Those names include no doubt thousands of banned Freepers, not to mention our own who once banned came back under another name.

Undoubtedly, there are other scenarios that I am missing that account for the fact that there are probably no more (and this is a guess) than 3000 of us and perhaps 10,000 lurkers.

But there is no way that the membership number has any relevance to the true numbers of engaged DUers at this moment.

3. many, many, many, many of that 30K figure are freeps
freeps, lrkers, repeat sign-ups, etc...

I would doubt that there are much more than 5000 active posters

6. I believe that many won't even see the poll...
If they don't go into the GD forum, they won't even know that there's a vote going on. It's ashame that it somehow can't be posted on the Latest messages page.

7. we don't trust black box voting
either that or we're apathetic.

or there are really only 600 of us and we each have 500 handles.

or maybe only 600 people really care about the GD posting rules.

or maybe we have another "prankster."

11. During the brief period when "views" were enabled
even the hot topic threads rarely got above 1500 to 2000 views, and many of them could have been repeat visits by some members.

My opinion - there are only a few hundred regulars here.

12. Proud to have voted

Though my side is losing :-(

Also, I was the first person to vote NO. When I voted there were maybe three yesses, thats all.

Bearfart (do you mind thie nic?) is right people, be proud of your right to vote. The owners didn't have to let us in on the whole shebang.

We ARE the Democratic Undergroung, right? Not the AU (Apethetic Underground).

No go vote. If your vote is no, vote twice.

On edit, "vote twice" may not be such a wise thing to say after yesterday, but I'll let it stand, with an apology to anyone who is offended. Sorry, just being silly. :-)

13. how could i mind? i picked it!!
Bearfarts is a name that a bunch of us came up with around 3AM while trying to thaw out, over coffee in some DC dump, after walking from Arlington Cemetary to the White house for the umpteenth time during the Vietnam protests.

we had been sleeping, when we did sleep, on the floor of a church and hadn't had a shower in days. some local patrons, not to sympathetic to our mission or our smell started cracking wise. we cracked back and some how the term bearfarts was mentioned and we took it as a badge of honor.

she-bear and i would very much like to get in contact with any of those people and hope that if they stumble in here someday they might see our nic.

we KNOW they will remember and say "hey".

14. the "campaign" period was ridiculously short
a lot of those 30,000 people probably don't even know there's an election on here.
