Thank You Rush Limbaugh!

Once again we see how sick this country is when it comes to race.
America is mentally ill.

I often annoy my DU family by pointing out the insidious form of racism that exists today. A lot of it is unintentional, and a lot of it is institutional.

The general proposition is that this country is so awash in white supremacy, that a lot of whites (and some nonwhites) have a hard time, seeing it much less understanding it. The phrase we use is "Fish don't see the water they swim in".

Listen to all of the defenders of Rush Limbaugh. I won't bore you with the ridiculous details, but they are very creative. They've sparked a national debate all over again about "political correctness" which, as far as I'm concerned, is a term invented for the express purpose of flipping race issues.

Now I've seen white people flip race issues before that I thought were ridiculous, for example, they have convinced themselves that affirmative action makes them a "victim".

But I gotta give it to them for this one.

To sell to the public, that black quarterbacks in the NFL, have it easier because of political correctness is beyond all imagination. It is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Black athletes need affirmative action to play in the NFL? My God. Is there no shame among these people?

You guys can't even imagine the suffering that black people experienced when, overjoyed at seeing a black quarterback play, ey had to sit through racist commentating ALL THE DAMN TIME. Black quarterbacks always "threw the ball too hard." But if a white quarterback could throw like that, "Oh wow, he has a cannon for an arm".

I wonder how people would react if someone said that John Elway was overrated because he was white.

A lot of white people have wanted to become "victims" so bad they can taste it. And when white people become "victims", then Jeezus, watch out, Holy Hell, by God somebody's gonna hurt. Whatever it takes to avenge white victimhood is acceptable. Excused, doubletalked whatever.

That's what's scary about 9-11. America became a "victim" clothed with righteousness. The fury was unleashed, and Bush is playing it like a violin. Wearing the flag like a sheet.

HERE'S A CLUE: If you saw nothing nasty and racist about what Rush Limbaugh said, then you know that you have a lot ot that "institutional" or "unintentional" racism in you. You don't mean to be racist, and you don't think you are, but...

is the poster boy for white male victims. "You can't say anything about race without being called racist" bullshit. It's a fucking excuse to be racist and I'm so sick of that cover I don't know what to do.

For a long time, I too, have said that America is mentally ill. Several psychologists and sociologist said it long before us (The Sane Society by Erich Fromm, The Crime of Punishment by Menninger, etc.). Essentially, what Rush said is that blacks are inferior, they are not smart enough to be good quarterbacks, and the media is so liberal that it can't accept this fact and must push political correctness on us and overrate them. That is what he meant. Ask any redneck or bigot and they will grin and tell you that's what they heard. To say it is not racist is to ignore the context and meaning of his statement.

the only reason i can get my head around for racism is that people must feel so inferior that they only feel good about themselves if they think they're higher up on the totem pole than someone else.

when my dad died in 1975 and the funeral director realized that his best friend was black, he actually asked us if we thought it was wise to have a black pallbearer.

I just didn't believe it was because people didn't like other peoples. And as a christian, I was terribly confused as to how whites slaveholders and KKK people, could say they were christian.

As far as I was concerned, John Brown was the closest thing to Jesus Christ that white people had. By his actions, he made it impossible to lump all whites as racist. He gave his life for what he believed. Not just some lip service while he owned slaves.

My eyes were opened forever by reading Dr. Frances Cress Welsing. It is her proposition that, whites know they are a minority of peoples on the planet. They know their birth rates are not keeping up with nonwhites. They also know that whites mating with nonwhites produces nonwhites. Therefore, if the world truly integrated, some people fear that white skin color would melt into the gene pool.

In order to prevent this from happening, some white people believe it is necessary to maintain control over all levers of society and people activity, i.e. politics, religion, war, economic, etc.

Also known as "diversity sensitivity training"

Here's how it goes.

Imagine that you have the power to change your gender and ethnicity to anything you like at will.

Now choose which ethnicity and gender you would choose for the following situations:

You are accused of a crime you did not commit. You don't have enough money for a lawyer.


You finally got an interview for your dream job!


You met the person of your dreams! This weekend, it's your first time going home to meet your beloved's parents. They are a very conservative, traditional family.


You get lost after dark in an unfamiliar part of town. Then you get a flat tire.


It's midmorning, and you are driving through a posh residential area. The police pull you over.

Another even more timely suggestion for those who want to get serious about sensitivity: Put on eastern dress and go to the mall.

particularly among those who aren't powerful, economically or socially. it's no wonder the rw's cultural wars targetted this group...the very people who have no business ever voting republican...because it's not in their best economic interest to do so. give 'em someone else to hate...keeps their minds off analyzing their own conditions, and connecting with those who are in the same boat. oh...and rush is a big, fat (unemployed) idiot :7

is the need to get rid of guilt, by projecting it onto another. rush hates and fears black people, yet he feels guilty about it deep inside, which is unacceptable to him. so, he makes an offensive statement about black quarterbacks and then attributes it to the "liberal media." see? it's not him, it's the liberal media that's racist now. a nice little bait and switch. no wonder he didn't apologize. he feels great-- he got rid of those bad guilty feelings.

likewise, the manipulation of feelings of victimhood after 9/11 serves the same purpose. it makes angry (white) americans feel GOOD about their anti-arab, anti-muslim, anti-third world racism. they can express it fully, in public, without fear of retribution. but deep down they know that their country has been slaughtering people in the middle east for their oil-- and the guilt must be dealt with somehow. it's so much better now that americans are the victims. no other story can be told.

The damn truth and so aptly put. Nicely done. If we talk about it enough without freaking out we can make it.
