Why Rush is NOT racist

The fact of the matter is, Limbaugh's highly biased remarks are found wholly acceptable to a certain segment of our society. While I in no way apologize for that transgression, these people are in significant control of popular opinion, and I'm told we have to be "moderate" in times like these

but it's decidedly not funny

Rush limbaugh is acceptable to white-men and the entire white-men culture in our society. It's acceptable to them. It's disgusting.

10. I agree with you...
... people's hearts have changed little, especially older people. They are just as racist as they ever were, but they've learned to keep their mouths shut.

When someone like Limbaugh says those things, they are thinking of him as a spokesperson.

45. "Racism is everywhere"
Truer words were never spoken. What we need to do to change it, is acknowledge that it does exist on a rampant scale. Once it's out in the open we can begin the process of reforming institutions which have the most adverse effect on minorities based on racist bias. And there is no other institution more ripe for change, than our criminal justice system.

43. That's NOT at all what I meant
I don't think racism is a laughing matter at all. What I meant, and it obviously didn't come out right because I was in such a hurry, was the manner in which you managed to attack racism and get in a dig about moderates at the same time with this line: "I'm told we have to be "moderate" in times like these."

I meant "funny" in a biting, sarcastic way.

Peace :hi:

8. I mean
That sometimes just shouting "Racist!" at someone doesn't do any good, it's best to try to figure out why they're saying that and address that problem. In this case, I doubt any duers will be having a heart to heart with Rush anytime soon...but in similiar situations being moderate and calming...can end up being effective in swaying opinion.

4. Yes, rednecks and bigots
know what Rush meant (blacks are inferior to whites and not smart enough to be good quarterbacks, but the liberal media won't accept that fact and so covers it up), and they are a certain segment of society. They are not in control of popular opinion, thank god, and many, many of us know what Rush meant and find it god-awful and repugnant (as in repuglican).

You are right, many many people in the US are racist, and most of them will swear up and down they are not, and don't even hear the surprise in their tone when they talk about how INTELLIGENT Al Sharpton is, why they had NO idea!

Isn't he (horrors) a black man?

Wonder what Mr. Snerdly thinks about his paycheck compared to Mr. quarter-of-a-billion-dollar-contract?

27. The comments themselves are not racist....
but you have to have racist sympathies to instantly jump to the conclusions made by them.

Even if you don't support affirmative action, think about how a 10 year old black kid would feel if he's exposed to this cruel remark as punishment for no crime greater than watching a football game.

next will come his statement on the poor performance of blacks in basketball

racism is institutional in this country...that was why Rush was not specifically racist (even though I think he was)in his comments

It's acceptable to a lot of the folks who were watching that football show. That's the problem.

38. Nope, it's racist all right
I'm celebrating the fact that he didn't prevail and that there was a big fat stink about. Under all the crap and slime that's oozed all over the culture for the past two decades, the consensus is still that what he said is not acceptable and you can't take him out of his niche and into the mainstream. That is only some of the great news that's happened today.
