Could I have a brief wrapup of what's going on?

I'm in network hell and the place I'm staying runs CBC Newsworld 24 hrs. a day which doesn't cover US news. The local papers aren't much more help.

I've been seeing tantalizing clues about something taking off on the White House revealing a spy story.

Apparently Rush said something or did something or revealed an addiction or all three.

Two or more Canadians were killed apparently by their jeep running over a land mine even though the area was theoretically cleared.

I'm sorry to hear about the Canadians.

It briefly gets mentioned on the scroll, but no details. I've got the gist of the original story from Monday, but it looks like the excreta hit the impeller in the meantime.

1. Joe Wilson's wife was outed back in July by Robert Novak in a column. She has been a covert CIA agent for 30 some years. Wilson discredited the Niger report a year ago and he is bitching now. CIA got involved and is investigating who leaked from White house.

2. Rush was hired by ESPN to comment on NFL. Made a stupid racist remark on Sunday and hell broke loose Mon. By yesterday he had "resigned." Also it appears he is being investigated for being an oxycontin drug addict and buying it illegally through his housekeeper.

3. Arnold called stories by women (for 3 decades) that he sexually harasssed them lies and dirty politics at the last hour. Then today he surprised everyone by admitting he had been a bad boy and was sorry.

No real developments. Lots of anger on our side and posturing on their side. Novak trying to spin the whole thing into a non-story.

Rush said racist stuff on ESPN -- about a African American quarterback not being really good but getting good press as kind of affirmative action from the NFL and the press. He resigned from the show today and blamed ESPN for all his woes.

1. 2 former CIA guys, Larry Johnson and Robert Baer, are pointing their fingers at the Office of the Vice-President (think Scooter Libby.)

2. Ambassador Wilson has said that a reporter told him that his wife was "fair game."

3. DOJ is investigating and the investigation is now widening to include the State Department and the Pentagon.

4. The CIA "operative" is the wife of Ambassador Wilson and a 20+ year "undercover" operative now involved in WMD's. She was not an analyst as some have tried to downplay it.

Hey, I just noticed that I haven't seen Ann Coulter on the air. You'd think the author of a book entitled "Treason" would be interviewed. Huh.

On what basis would he make that remark anyway? She's fair game because her husband stuck his neck out? He blew the whistle so she's fair game? It's disgusting.

I admire Wilson more and more every day. Have you been reading the background stories on him? When he had 200 Americans under his protection in Bagdad prior to the Gulf War and Saddam was threatening to execute anyone who defied his order to have them report to him. And Wilson came out for an interview with a NOOSE around his neck to stick it to Saddam. I think he's a standup guy.

Don ANUS read off the LIMBOsevic double whammy about 1) resigning from ESPN and 2) being a junky buying prescription painkillers from a blackmarket ring. ANUS was BARELY containing his glee over his rival, but I suspect O'REILLY will be the main beneficiary.

The LA Times ran their 7-wks incubating story about six women who say Ahhhnuld sexually assaulted them. Ahhhnuld apologized and got cheered and rode a humongous blue bus around.

David KAY gave testimony over his WMD search behind closed doors, finding NOTHING, but asking for $600 million to continue finding nothing. He said he could be searching for 25 years and that we should always "expect surprises" since the futile search so far has been a surprise. Unsurprisingly, Faux and CNN cut away when Senator David ROCKEFELLER started talking.

Tweety "interviewed" Ahhhnuld outside of the bigggg blue bus and gushed and blushed like a girl. He then gave an Ahhhnuld female supporter, who looked like she was on steroids, free rein and then MERCILLESSLY BASHED Democrat Art TORRES (who should have been the one running for governor if any Dem was going to).

LIMBOsevic did not show up on his program, gave a speech in Philadelphia only about the ESPN flap, and issued a statement saying he is "not aware" of any criminal investigation, did NOT say he is an ADDICT and ILLEGALLY BOUGHT drugs, just that he would "cooperate fully" if anybody contacts him.

NOVAKula continues to change his stories about the leak.

The Joe Wilson-CIA leak story is seeking traction. The White House response has been that any leak would be outrageous, they wouldn't condone it, and how dare you suggest they would. Besides, don't you realize that Joe Wilson is a partisan hack and this is all being driven by the politically partisan Dems. Will the press buy that line? It remains to be seen. They have turned away from great stories in the past & they have the opportunity to do so again. Let's hope they decline.

Meanwhile, ex-CIA agents, notably Larry Johnson, are being very outspoken. Johnson, on the Newshour Monday, "I'm disgusted to be a Republican."

As for Rush, he suggested that Donovan McNabb (think that's his name), a black NFL quarterback, was given more coverage than he deserved by the press because he was black and the press tried to make black athletes better than they are. The sh*t hit the fan and Rush resigned from ESPN so his "colleagues" -- who'd said nothing to his comments -- wouldn't be embarrassed.

Today, the National Enquirer printed a story with Rush's maid that said he was addicted to oxycontin and other pain meds which she procured for him.

And, in case this has also passed you by, the LA Times reports that multiple women accuse Ahnold of sexual harrassment and/or assault. Not really sure on that one.... He says he didn't do that but he has been a sleaze at times.

In other words, the media is finding the celebrity scandals they need to drown out the real scandal story. We'll see how they go forward.
