Is the plan to shunt blame onto Blanco and other local authorities?
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 07:40 PM by jpgray
As in "they didn't request federal aid properly/quickly so that's why it wasn't there"? We'll see what the RNC puts up, or what the right-wing radio hosts have to say, but I imagine this will be the angle. That, and saying no one could have imagined this would be the situation, etc. If you say that loud enough, no one will gainsay it in the media, or at least that's the way they've behaved up to this point.

3. Didn't 9-11 change everything
Homeland Security is supposed to be in charge of everything now. They can try to blame the Mayor and the Governor but it will come out that the Feds purposely withheld help.

4. They're saying it but nobody is paying attention
I'm also tired of all this nonsense that there was a bunch of aid piled up trying to go to New Orleans but that the governor wouldn't let them come in. This is ridiculous. I don't believe it for one minute.

5. My reply:
The lack of response is being seen both in Mississippi and in Louisiana. This tells us that this is not a Louisiana-specific occurrence, and thus that more likely the federal govt to blame.

7. Of course it is. They have to have a scapegoat or they wouldn't
be good Nazis. You have to blame someone else, someone vulnerable, who can't really fight back to blame for your mistakes, lies and deceits. This is how it's always done. Remember Nero blamed the Christians for the great fire of Rome. He didn't do anything to stop it and the citizenry started blaming him. No problem, he found someone to blame. Problem solved.

9. GWB is never at fault
Republicans are the good guys--Democrats bad and will fail you when times are bad---this seems to be the direction the rhetoric is moving--Look at some of the things Hailey Barbour the gov of MS said yesterday, then look at his comments after he received the Republican talking points.

This is not a case of racism it seems, but just plain old get even politics.

You didn't vote for me, or you have a Democrat for a mayor or Governor or Senator, and we will shit all over you---Of corse there does seem to be rampant incompetence --but for the Bushies and the White House, its just politics.

11. It's no plan, it's in full effect. Most people, even many wingnuts, see
how shabby and inadequate the response has been from shrubco though, despite all this.

13. This is why I think the "give 'em enough rope" plan is a failure
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 07:53 PM by jpgray
Because they are always ready to use the rope to put a noose around any neck but their own. We need to be on the attack more than we are.

14. The short answer -- of course. And the media is beginning to help them.
The fact that they had no money to provide buses for all to evacuate, to go door to door, that most of this country does not have other means of affordable mass transit, like commuter trains, because the car industry rules, will be hardly mentioned. And now that NO is no more, at least for now, who is there in LA even to vote for Dems? Disenchanted Republicans? There will be some but hardly enough. When B. says Michael Brown is doing great, and FEMA and the federal response have been just gfine but the "results are unacceptable," who do you think he is framing for taking the blame in NO?

15. Did you see Dubya in Biloxi?
Time and again he held up Mississippi and Alabama as exemplars of disaster response done right. His game was already obvious this morning.

They can spin and spin but they knew and still pulled the funding.
