Rice is headed to NO
snip>
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, in an unusual foray into domestic affairs, sharply disputed any suggestion that storm victims had somehow been overlooked because of their race. "We're all going to need to be in this together," she said in announcing offers of foreign aid. "I think everybody's very emotional. It's hard to watch pictures of any American going through this. And yes, the African-American community has obviously been very heavily affected."

But noting her own roots in Alabama, and her father's in Louisiana, Dr. Rice announced plans to visit the region this weekend and said, "That Americans would somehow in a color-affected way decide who to help and who not to help - I just don't believe it."

52. And how could she not be, for God's sake.
Here, this Loser of a Woman goes to Ferragamo's Shoe Store in New York. These are nice shoes. Believe me, nice. Italian leather. Elegant. They ARE spendy, however. $300 is not unusual for a pair.

So here she goes out shoe-shopping while her own Brothers & Sisters are dying, drowning, exposed to sweltering heat, and thirst.

It just goes beyond the pale. I'm sure there are some family members down there who got hurt, at the very least relatives of hers.

This woman has nothing in this world. A cold, empty life devoid of anytying -- except

SHOES

Spanish Member of Parliament trapped in NOLA convention center without food and water
by John in DC - 9/02/2005 07:30:00 PM

UPDATE: I'm told ABC showed the MP being rescued this evening.

Bet the MP's glad our Secretary of State is on vacation today in NYC buying $3000 shoes and attending Monty Python musicals on Broadway because, after all, there's nothing for Condi Rice to do today.

The article below is from the Spanish paper El Pais, thanks to reader George for the heads up and the translation (I've checked the translation, it's good :-) And while I haven't found this specific article on El Pais, I have found articles noting this MP is in fact trapped in NOLA. There's actually a second article here, and the MP is pissed.

Gads, the rest of the world may decide America needs regime change!

54. Someone apparently "put the boots" to her while she was shopping
<snip>
What does surprise us: Just moments ago at the Ferragamo on 5th Avenue, Condoleeza Rice was seen spending several thousands of dollars on some nice, new shoes (we’ve confirmed this, so her new heels will surely get coverage from the WaPo’s Robin Givhan). A fellow shopper, unable to fathom the absurdity of Rice’s timing, went up to the Secretary and reportedly shouted, “How dare you shop for shoes while thousands are dying and homeless!” Never one to have her fashion choices questioned, Rice had security PHYSICALLY REMOVE the woman.

Remember, the * administration is all PR and no substance. Although, it makes me wonder how * could have screwed up N.O. worse. I know he doesn't care about the people, but it's been a disaster for his image, the only thing he does care about.

69. South drowns, Rice soaks in N.Y Did NY'ers chase her back to DC?
As South drowns, Rice soaks in N.Y. Did New Yorkers chase Condoleezza Rice back to Washington yesterday?

Like President Bush, the Secretary of State has been on vacation during the Hurricane Katrina crisis, with Rice enjoying her downtime in New York Wednesday and yesterday. The cabinet member's responsibilities are usually international, but her timing contributed to the "fiddling while Rome burns" impression given by her boss during the disaster, which may have claimed thousands of lives.

On Wednesday night, Secretary Rice was booed by some audience members at "Spamalot!," the Monty Python musical at the Shubert, when the lights went up after the performance.

Yesterday, Rice went shopping at Ferragamo on Fifth Ave. According to the Web site www.Gawker.com, the 50-year-old bought "several thousand dollars' worth of shoes" at the pricey leather-goods boutique.

A fellow shopper shouted, "How dare you shop for shoes while thousands are dying and homeless!" - presumably referring to Louisiana and Mississippi.

The woman expressing her First Amendment rights was promptly removed from the store. A Ferragamo store manager confirmed to us that Rice did shop there yesterday, but refused to answer questions about whether the protester was removed, and whether by his own security or the Secret Service.

Hope people in Alambama do the same when she shows up.

71. DoYouEverWonder... Yes, they did!
And you're right, after 9/11, Ny'ers have very little love for BushCo.

85. She enjoyed that show so much, she thought she'd go see
"Big River" currently playing in New Orleans. Since everyone's talking about it so much, it must be great.

74. She will probably have a photo op with a white man and his son.
She'll hug them and tell them there is help on the way. Feel free to go to the Salvation Army and get some new clothes..

Rummy will probably go next. Afterall he knows where the bodies are located. To the North, South, East and West or somewhere thereabouts.
Dubby already got his worst Weapon quote in yesterday, so the War pResident can now turn it up a notch.

86. Anne or Condi?
I suspect that fabulously wealthy N'Awlins native Anne Rice might be able to accomplish more down there right now than "shop 'til N.O. drops" Condi Rice.

87. Help me L-rd!
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 04:59 PM by BenDavid
What? She is going back to Alabama and N.O.. Most likely to a place like laura bush went to and made the statement, " It is not as bad as you see on TV" What will it prove, that she is black and trying to sqash the rumors that the help in coming was not somehow related to race....Help me L-rd! Is this the woman that keeps telling us that she has "been black all her life" What the hell does that mean? I cannot recall the African-American journalist that wrote this, but I can remember the quote well, " Condi Rice has not been black in years". Only when it suits her. Like this trip to Alabama will she use her statement, " I been black all my life".....as Garfield would say, " WELL, DUH! ".

I will go out on a limb here and say if Clinton were still President, this lack of concern and taking 4 days to even get water and food to those folks would not have happened. James Lee Witt would have gone in there on Tuesday with a force, and Clinton would have walked through the area on Wednesday, especially the Superdome and the Convention Center and not be worried one bit.....bush is president of the people.....William Jefferson Clinton was a President FOR the people.....
