Habitat For Humanity is going to build houses for New Orleans -
going to build them in other places and move them to New Orleans when its cleaned up. I'd rather contribute to that and clothes and shoes then money that you don't know where it's going, although SEcond Harvest says all the money goes to food, not to administration.

1. They'll build good houses
After Hurricane Andrew, the only houses left standing were those built by HfH. Why? Because HfH builds to code......

I had gone down to volunteer w/my local Red Cross, but they're not sure which end is up. I'll call HfH on Tuesday.

2. THat is something to get behind.... Carter and this program
COULD ensure that the poor who inhabited NOLA are not left out of the NOLA rebuilding. Some have suggested that the clusterfuck response was to allow for a total removal of the "undesireables" and allow for the Bush* cronies to select the new path (and population) for NOLA.

3. As I posted on another thread
you can get on their website and sign up for info on helping to build these homes. I'm really hoping we'll be doing that here in Seattle. I can wield a hammer, drill, screwdriver, and can probably learn to use some other tools. So if you're interested, check out HFH's site.
