16. Well Friday he was at the NYS fair,
and there was a fundraiser luncheon for Hilary. Last night he was in the Thousand Islands at another fundraiser for Hilary. I just wish he and Hilary would do something like Mr. Al Gore has done/is doing.

"200+ guests attended a fundraising event for Senator Hillary Clinton at the home of Dick and Carole Munroe on Bluff Island Friday evening---an event which was highlighted by the presence of former President Clinton. The Clintons are spending the night at the Munroe guest house on the island near Clayton."

12. I miss the Clinton years...
Gas was under two bucks a gallon, there was a 200 billion dollar budget surplus and all we had to worry about was the president getting a blow job in the oval office. Halcyon days!

14. He may be right about the levees

The two clear complaints are:

- They botched the evacuation, either because they didn't have evacuation plans (which HS was supposed to have in case a port was hit by terrorism) or they didn't use them. Chertoff told Kerry in a July 19 Transportaion committee hearing that they didn't have them. Kerry pointed out that Chertoff promised them in April and other officials had repeatedly promised them. They should have had transportation for the poor and infirm and places identified to take those without places to go to. (As a test to performance for a terror attack - with no warning, this should have been an easy test. They had at least a day's warning.)

- They botched the rescue. The levee broke late Monday night and no federal help came until Thursday - that is pathetic. NYC is on an island with only a finite number of tunnels and bridges - they had help from NJ within hours.

On the question of whether a category 4 storm could have been withstood by the designed but not implemented improvements is a question for engineers and scientists. Letting improvements be canceled for tax cuts is immoral and despicable, but at least some credible sounding engineers described the storm as having surges equivalent to category 5 surges.

The first two issues - which everyone agrees - were handled badly are what killed people. Arguing the third, before engineers analyze it, can give the Republicans the chance to say that we are wrong and politicing the tradgedy.

18. HE actually talked about the programs started under him for the levees
(I think?) and he specifically said that he didn't know if the project(s?) were completed or not.

Hint, hint, media.....

13. Like the dems said - they are staying quiet on this one so that
"its politics" doesn't fly. And the truth will come out due to multiple investigations and will build and build.

Dems have to be quiet.

17. It's a foregone conclusion...
While Katrina's initial victims came from Lousianna and Mississippi, her final casualties will come from Washington DC.

19. We have GOT to keep calling our senators, regardless of the
politicalspeak we may get now. If indeed it's the best course to wait a few days to avoid charges of partisanship, we at least need to DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY AFTER THE FACT!!!

PLEASE. Everyone, melt down the phone lines calling "our" representatives.
