God Bless Magic Johnson!
I am overwhelmed by all he is doing and planning to do. Good for him for holding the govt. accountable and saying he wants to see a plan from them and updates by the media on the plan--he states he was disappointed by what they haven't done.

I'm thankful Larry didn't cut him off or try to talk over him.

((((Magic Johnson)))))

I said awful things about him after I found out he cheated on his wife. I'm sorry I did. While it was wrong, that's between them. It doesn't take away from the kind of human being he is.

Thank you, Magic!

6. I'm sorry--Magic Johnson was featured on CNN
on Larry King's show. He spoke of what he is doing and what he plans to do for the survivors of Katrina.

He has bought shoes to have sent to the people and children. He owns Burger King's and he will feed people. He owns movie theaters, and will see that people are taken to the movies.

He went on to say that he was disappointed and shocked by the response to Katrina by our govt. He said that he would like to see a plan put in place, and he wants to be kept abreast of what that plan is and how it is being implemented.

He also said that he hopes that teachers will go to the children that have been displaced and tutor them and study with them so that they don't lose an entire semester of school because of Katrina.

He was very calm but obviously upset and quite concerned. He has more than enough to give, but made it clear that he was also holding our govt. accountable for what DIDN'T happen.

It was cool. :hi:

3. He was great. But pardon me, but 9/11 and was nothing like this.
As horrific as 9/11 was the level of infrastructure destruction, flood, power outages, fires etc. make the aftermath of Katrina much more difficult to deal with. 9/11 was a horrible incident but was somewhat contained within an area less than the size of Manhattan. Evenso there were communication problems and some chaos that was somewhat down-played by the media as it gave deference to Bush and Guiliani photo ops and all the attention to the massive amounts of money collected for the survivors and their families. I shudder to think what it would have been like had the same amount of infrastructure destruction taken place in NYC during 9/11. I don't want to marginalize 9/11 but reality is what it is. There was no polluted water for Bush and Guiliani to wade through, no hordes of starving, dehydrated, scared people sitting in cess pools in hot unbearable heat with would-be rescue vehicles passing them by.

Just no comparison.

4. Comparing 9/11 and Katrina is pointless
They are both terrible tragedies that could have almost definitely been prevented if we had competent leadership. We should learn from both tragedies to try and prevent another one of either kind of these tragedies. Unfortunately I feel we are still atleast as vulnerable, if not more so, to another catastrophic tragedy with this administration and this Congress.

5. I have to comment to my previous post and apologize for faulty thinking.
i believe what Magic was saying was not so much that NYC had a plan in place BEFORE 9/11 but that they surely put a plan in place quickly after 9/11. I agree with that. But even then there were complaints about fund not getting to families in most need, insurance, etc.

7. Magic Johnson is a good guy...have met him several times.
My sister knew him @ Michigan State University, and his former mentor Dr. Charles Tucker is my neighbor. He's an authentic human being.
