"Halliburton hired for storm cleanup
The Navy has hired Houston-based Halliburton Co. to restore electric power, repair roofs and remove debris at three naval facilities in Mississippi damaged by Hurricane Katrina
Halliburton subsidiary KBR will also perform damage assessments at other naval installations in New Orleans as soon as it is safe to do so.

KBR was assigned the work under a "construction capabilities" contract awarded in 2004 after a competitive bidding process. The company is not involved in the Army Corps of Engineers' effort to repair New Orleans' levees.'

14. Well, I'm an atheist so my opinion probably doesn't count but
I would think that Halliburton would be the creation of Satan. Then again, if you asked Satan, I'm guessing he/she/it would say "Hell no. I had nothing to do with that. Those guys are pure EVIL."

I knew the head honchos at Halliburton were absolutely licking their chops over this whole thing. I bet they're pissed that there wasn't MORE damage.

Dante says the hottest place in that ..err.. ah .. place is reserved for TRAITORS..

Its gonna be quite crowded down under

24. Hah! An atheist making Catholicism make sense. Go figure!
Yes, there is evil and then there is EVIL. I think the current administration and their cronies may even have expanded the definition of the latter. Their actions are truly beyond comprehension. And Dubya has the nerve to call himself a "Christian." That's a huge insult to Christians everywhere.

25. What's to confess?
That you brought a little levity into the situation and provided us with a laugh during these rather dismal times. I thought it was hilarious! Nothing to confess as far as I'm concerned db. Then again, as an atheist, what the heck do I know about confessions? ;)

Furious? Definitely. Awake? Somewhat. Livid about the whole fiasco in NO and the needless suffering and dying? I think I'm actually beyond livid at this point. But am I surprised that Halliburton managed to cash in on it? Not at all. I knew that would happen when I first heard the levees had been breached. However, what I didn't predict was this administration's complete neglect in regard to rescue operations. Don't get me wrong. I'm as cynical as they come. I'm just not THAT cynical. Apparently I "misunderestimated" the Chimp. How someone...ANYONE...could stand by and let this happen is just beyond me.

So Haliburton can drag their ass and soak us for billions more dollars, as if they don't have enough of our money already.

23. Oh man. We can only hope.
The entire administration and everyone associated with them has got to go. If any country ever needed a "do over", I think this one does. I think we need a "mulligan clause" inserted in the election laws.

Not quite like "for all the storm-ravaged areas."

Not the end of the world, folks. Maybe this is the way they conveniently withdraw from Iraq.

29. "Flood protection money to Halliburton "
"Flood protection money to Halliburton "
"September 1, 2005 -- Flood protection money to Halliburton = Blood money for the Big Easy. With reports that the Bush administration diverted $250 million in SELA (Southeast Louisiana) Urban Flood Control Program funds from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to Iraq, it is time for Congress to sit down with former Corps of Engineers Senior Executive Service Principal Assistant for Contracting Bunnatine Greenhouse. Ms. Greenhouse, who hails from Louisiana and likely knows something about who diverted the flood abatement funds to Halliburton, was fired in retaliation for her June 27 congressional testimony in which she stated that Corps contracts for Kellogg, Brown & Root/Halliburton Iraq infrastructure projects were improperly awarded -- through a no-bid process -- as a result of political influence by Bush and Cheney political appointees in the Army's hierarchy. On August 27, Ms. Greenhouse was removed from her career civil service position just as Hurricane Katrina bore down on New Orleans. Congress should order the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to obtain copies of all Corps of Engineer documents on contracts for Halliburton and the diverting of New Orleans flood control funds to Iraq reconstruction. The possibility that Dick Cheney's firm took money that was to go to New Orleans flood control projects should be a priority for Congress -- which should cancel its Labor Day recess and get back to work before September 12. (Late today, it announced it was reconvening immediately"

... U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are lucky to still have an office at the Pentagon.
