I Have About Had It With DU Tonight! And Liberal Democrats In General!
Tonight I have fielded arguments that the dems should "keep their heads down" on this to avoid looking political rather than standing up and doing whatever it takes to save lives.

Poster after poster basically argued that we should put politics before the folks that are dying so that America will see Bushco fail. Well, I for one cannot stand by and watch bodies pile up just so that I can point to the height of the pile and blame it on Bush.

I have seen it endlessly argued what to call the folks fleeing the area. Pointing out that such semantic arguments are a total irrelevancy in the face of the fact that people are dying just got me flamed.

Like those that are dying would rather have the airwaves and blogs filled with that debate rather than dedicating the energy and airtime to kelping. These people that are wasting time debating if they are refugees, evacuees, or whatever are wasting airtime that could be spent putting folks in touch with their families or calling the administration to do more.

I am so frustrated with this typical liberal democratic crap. Always letting the repugs destroy this country without standing up like so many of us have been and saying once and for all, "THAT IS IT!" Why? So that they will not look like they are political?

They are politicians people. That is what they do.

I suggested that Democrats should also be held accountable for their part in this failure of THE ENTIRE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT and it got me flamed out? We stand for nothing. We refuse to hold our own accountable. Yet, we scream that they do not hold their accountable.

We will not stand up for what is right, we just debate semantics and "keep our head's down".

Fuck!

Do I have to found my own party of folks that are sick of weighing every move on the scale of public opinion before making it?

Do I have to start a site where people are willing to hold BOTH sides accountable?

Do I have to found a party that actually stands for helping PEOPLE over weighing how the other side may spin it all before I am done?

I am seriously unhappy with this party and this online community right now. I just do not get where you people are coming from.

"Let them die. We can point out the bodies as the failure of his administration! We don't need to be involved in all this ugliness" That seems to be what many of us are about these days.

Sickening!

3. Flame me if you must, but...
I think one of the things that separates "us" from "them" is that we can actually do multiple things at once. We can (and should) beat the crap out of the administration for all of the failures while, on the other hand, still working hard to help those who are desperately in need.

10. Our Leaders Are Not Even Doing That!
Where is the multi-tasking? Gore and Feingold are the only dems doing anything of note to help. None are hammering Bush the way he deserves.

I see nothing...

4. I hate that pussy-footing attitude, too
As I said on another post, there never seems to be a "good" time to criticize Bush.

Even worse, the Dems need to be telling the world how THEY would have handled the situation.

You need to both bash Bush and demonstrate that you've got your own act together.

5. This is why I stay in the Lounge
I have absolutely no time to 'discuss' issues with the very people you describe. I agree 100% with your assessment that for people to say "let them die" so the deaths can be used as a tool, is sickening.

Come back to the Lounge and rest awhile, DistressedAmerican...:pals:

14. I don't think any Dem is saying......
"let them die" to use the deaths as a tool. And that is not what I advocate. But their deaths not be allowed to be in vain. We cannot allow this president to escape criticism by continuing to call this a "natural" disaster.

Our government failed and failed miserably. Bus after bus after bus should have been availiable to get people out of the area.

7. I'm with you, man
It's sickening. I think dems should converge on the white house and not leave until bush leaves, a la cindy sheehan.

8. Bill Maher made a great point.....
about what you have written - he pointed out that just after 9/11 and during the march up to Iraq the rethugs were successful in drowning out the Dems and questions by calling into the patriotism of those who question what is going on. He added that the dissenting opinion was muffled by people saying that "this is not the time" and then asked, where did all that get us? Nowhere.

So sadly, I think people must speak out now and hold peoples' feet to the fire and it looks like Blanco did ask for help earlier than what it is being reported.

The Government failed the victim's of Katrina and it needs to be shouted from the highest of rooftops. And at this point and time, the Rethuglicans control the government and must be held accountable.

11. Not everyone, DA. The threads you pick
might be disappointing. I've read many different opinions today, and seen many new people.
Everyone is highly emotional and agog at what has gone down. Now, Rehnquist has died. IMO, calm down. For the last week it's been a whirlwind for all of us watching what's been going on. Cooler heads will prevail, even on DU.

12. I missed most of that, but I agree that it is more important to
help these people. I call them survivors, for the record. They survived Hurricane Katrina and now are trying to survive a government that obviously doesn't care about them. That is why I have complained endlessly about the way it has been handled. I can't believe there are still those who haven't been rescued now. This is atrocious. I wish I had a boat and a chainsaw if nothing else. I could maybe try to sneak past the National Guard and get a couple of them if nothing else. I feel helpless.

Considering the fact that this thread might piss some liberal off, I want to say something controversial myself tonight. I think this is worse than 9/11. I believe the death toll will be higher. I believe the impact will still be hitting the whole world months from now. I believe we are in some deep shit and I don't mean George Bush River down there in New Orleans. That's what I call that putrid stew of garbage, debris, sewage, gasoline, rotting corpses, and festering diseases.

I see your point. I just don't know what to do. I wish there was something I could do. I feel helpless. I talk about other things to fight that feeling. I can't take but so much. I'm an emotional person when it comes to things like this. How much is our government going to put us through? I'm sorry I asked that question. They will be answering soon with even more new laws to protect corporations from the impact of this catastrophe and finish destroying poor people and minorities in general. This is their newest license to destroy us in favor of profit.

thanks for stopping by.

//I suggested that Democrats should also be held accountable for their part in this failure of THE ENTIRE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT//
You want to blame the Dems for this fiasco? We have no voice in the federal government, the last time I checked.

It is understandable that tempers are high right now, however posts such as this do nothing more than cause arguments.
