I was visiting Arlington a couple years ago on a biz trip there. While walking among the headstones, I came across Rhenquist's, as his wife died in the 90's and was already buried there.

I actually marked it on a map so when I return someday I could go spit on his grave.

just because I didn't post about wanting to piss on his grave doesn't mean there isn't a part of me that thought something along those lines. The man made decisions on the Court that showed he had no regard for his fellow human beings...but worse than that he had no regard for democracy.

I had to read some of his work in law school too and after reading an opinion he wrote (he never wrote too many important decisions) I never did put down my book and exclaim "That child molester!"

For Rehnquist, whatever fate awaits us when we pass, I am sure he will be judged accordingly. But we are better than this. We can certainly be angry and mad and spiteful. We can be righteous in our anger. That's fine. But what we do with that is what will distinguish us from the conservatives. That will win us back congress in 2006. And that will make us better human beings than them. And besides that, I think its also disrespectful to his friends and family, who most likely have done nothing to us, who have just lost a loved one. Show them some respect as well. Please.
