angry/sick quotes from prominent blacks in paper in Scotland
http://www.sundayherald.com/51614

KANYE WEST, hip hop star: “I hate the way they portray us in the media. You see a black family, it says: ‘They’re looting.’ You see a white family, it says: ‘They’re looking for food.’ It’s been five days . With the way America is set up to help the poor – the black people – that’s as slow as possible. We realise a lot of people who could help are at war right now , and the government’s given the army who are here permission to go down and shoot us! George Bush doesn’t care about black people.”
Jesse Jackson, Congressman: ‘‘Today I saw 5000 African Americans on the I-10 causeway, desperate, perishing, dehydrated, babies dying. It looked like Africans in the hull of a slave ship. It was so ugly and so obvious. Have we missed this catastrophe because of indifference and ineptitude, or is it a combination of the both? We have great tolerance for black suffering and black marginalisation. And today those who are suffering the most, in fact, in New Orleans certainly are black people.”

Randall Robinson, civil rights leader: ‘‘New Orleans marks the end of the America I strove for. I am angry against my country for doing nothing when it mattered. This is what we have come to. This defining watershed moment in America’s racial history. I, the formerly unjaundiced human rights advocate, have finally come to see my country for what it really is: a monstrous fraud. But what can I do but write about how I feel? How millions, black like me, must feel at this, the lowest moment in my country’s story.”

Elijah Cummings, Maryland Democrat and former head of the Congressional Black Caucus: “We cannot allow it to be said by history that the difference between those who lived and those who died in this great storm and flood of 2005 was nothing more than poverty, age or skin colour. Many of these Americans who are struggling to survive are Americans of colour. Their cries for assistance confront America with a test of our moral compass as a nation. ”

15. Excuse me too!

What makes me sick is that GWB has tried to bring his KKK ways to let my people die on national TV.

He is worse than the Head of the KKK, at least they wear a sheet so we know what they stand for ---

14. My only gripe with those quotes...
...is that "black," etc should be crossed out. Hell, the word "poor" too. Their race or amount of money shouldn't matter. Our government should have been doing all they could to help them from the moment we knew it was headed that way. But they didn't. PEOPLE are suffering. Not just black people, not just poor people, but fellow human beings.

21. I've been wondering why they held back so long. GOP expects
little sheep votes from AA (just like they get from little sheep whites) and whines because they have not gotten them. But every move they make diminishes the political power that AA do have. Be it ignoring the NAACP or the anger of the black caucus after the 2000 election - I would be seething at this point.

24. Calm the fuck down, people
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there's a misunderstanding here. I don't think anyone would post that these quotes are "sick," as in they aren't true, or shouldn't have been said. I think the poster was trying to say that the speakers were "sick," as in sickened or something. I could be wrong, but maybe give the benefit of the doubt, before we bust out the sharks with laser beams on their heads...
