Current Death Toll of Hurricane Katrina
What is the current death toll from Hurricane Katrina? and how many of those victims died because of the lack of rescue effects?

2. No firm death toll yet
147 in Mississippi, but the count has been suspended to allow the state's coroner to deal with what may be 1,000 or more dead in Biloxi alone.

No count has been attempted anywhere else.

Currently, the estimates range around 10,000 to 15,000 for New Orleans, and half as many to as many for the rest of the gulf coast. The total death toll could exceed 30,000. Previous estimates of deaths in scientific models of such a storm gave figures ranging from 10,000 to 100,000.

The effects of delayed response will be tabulated when the investigation(s) get cranked up.
