The Titanic analogy really is apt
Ship allowed to sail without enough life boats to save money

Life saving levee system allowed to deteriorate or not built up to looming disaster - funds cut and diverted

Disaster strikes both after warnings received:

Notification that there were icebergs in water from other ships but Owner of ship directs Captain to increase speed

Weather satellites and meteorologists forecasting Cat 4-5 Hurricane which responsible people know means devastation to NO. This information arrives almost 21/2 days prior to landfall. People asked to evacuate. Those with cars or other means do so. Significant number cannot per lack of means.

Ship struck. The poorest passengers have no lifeboats and drown.

City floods. Many of the poorest of the population drown or die of dehydration or for lack of medical attention concerning serious medical condition

Here is where it gets interesting

A ship so close in the distance the Captain of the Titanic can see it's lights. He sends up flares, he signals morse code. HE IS IGNORED.

That ship is the Californian. It was not equipped with a marconi devise but it does have watches posted as a ship should. The watch does not notify the Captain of the Californian because the Captain does not like to be disturbed while he is sleeping. Must have been some captain that his officers feared him. The ship was large enough to have saved everyone but didn't.

Instead, a captain of another ship -the Carpathian farther away- changes course, navigates through an ice field at top speed- orders that preparations be made to save the lives of a huge number of people

He acted,he had no blueprint, and did manage to save the survivors.

George Bush is the Captain of the Californian who denied to his dying day that he was near the site of the Titanic. He lied. Robert Ballard proved it.

George Bush is lying now.

Let's not wait 80 years to confirm what we know now.

B* cut funding to shore up the levee system
B* ignored pleas from the "Captain of NO"- the mayor- for help

The American people and the MSM acted as the other Captain-coming too late to save all.

George, you and the Captain of the Californian have a lot in common: you're both cowards and liars and

I've been thinking the same thing. The poor people locked below deck
reminded me of the poor people left at the dome and the convention center.

1. I thought the Titanic didn't have enough lifeboats because
it was "unsinkable" - I think it was hubris not financial restraint.

2. I beleive they never had enough lifeboats but at one time during
planning had more than they sailed with

Somthing to do with the look of them

It's been a while since I read the book which was written I think in the 50's

90 years later, how little things have changed.

7. AND the arrogant disregard of nature
calling the titanic unsinkable, how absurd, but they really believed it. mother nature always wins, even though we live under the illusion that we've conquered it.

9. Kick again. The Titanic disaster and the Triangle Factory fire are
two great comparisons to this. Both resulted in large scale investigations and changes. This will do the same - but hopefully on a much larger scale. We haven't come so far in the past 90 years after all.
