3. I found out on Today show at 7am right at the beginning of the show
Brian Williams called it an alarming overnight development. I remember wondering how bad it could get.

I can't do an advance search right now, so I wanted to find out exactly when each levee broke. Another example of great minds thinking alike, LOL!! (There were two levee breaks, right!)

Just checked the email I forwarded to friends with the info and link to Roy Nagin's first appearance on WWL. Was sent at 8/30/05 at 2:03 A.M.

I'm including the link to that first appearance that is dated 8/29/05.

It is so sad to go back and hear this. He's still confident that the Federal Government is going to come in and help at this point.

13. It very well could have been earlier in the day.
I first saw the WWL link late in the evening.

I don't know what time he was actually on WWL and even with that by the time he was on WWL the city was completely flooded. So the levee had to have broken some time before he was on there.

19. We DUers knew of the levee break very late Monday night;
it sunk.

It showed up again very early Tuesday morning.

This is different from the first confirmed reports of levee breaking: that was Monday night at around 11:30 pm. The reports became more widespread later that night, i.e., early Tuesday morning. DU was in lockstep with those reports.

One tv station reported at 11:28 am Monday, a full 12 hours earlier, that the levee had broken. They were roundly ignored by all concerned, and no confirmations followed from anybody. It even didn't make a splash on that station's web announcements after that. This may have resulted from storm surge, or it may have indeed been a levee failure: whoever reported it needs to be contacted for confirmation.

The same tv station cited rumors at around 9:30 am Monday that the levee had broken.
