2. Camp Katrina: 100,000 Survivors camp on the Mall; demand answers & change
I envision Camp Katrina as a vast city of tents on the Mall in Washington DC. I see it as a focal point for anger and a source of real change.

Camp Katrina:

- Will keep Bush's incompetence on the front page through 9/11, the SCOTUS hearings, and the 9/24 peace march.

- Will give survivors access to the media, their legislators, and activists. They will be in the seat of power.

- They will force Bush to either meet with them or ignore them.

I would like to publicize this to Moveon and other activist groups so they can take over planning, publicity, and nuts and bolts.

Please spread the word.

I have set up a forum at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/campkatrina/

I am one little disabled keyboard activist who needs lots of help.

4. Several days ago, I suggested "Bushville" on the Mall in DC
Modeled after Hoovervilles of the Great Depression, to house the displaced hurricane families.

I noted, that it would serve a dual purpose, housing for the victims and as a protest. I'd search for the post, but option is not currently available.

Regardless, I'd volunteer to help out for that and donate! It's an in your face, Bush, look what you've created, type of protest.

I am pushing this and I need lots of help.

I want people to take this off my shoulders since I am disabled and at the end of my energy.

Please help with ideas and action.

5. Could there be a "Dunk the Dimwit-in-Chief" attraction?
Edited on Sun Sep-04-05 01:00 PM by AirAmFan
Years ago many carnivals and state fairs had large tanks of water over which clowns sat in chairs. When a ball was thrown and hit its target, the chair would fold down and the clown would be dropped into the water.

Wouldn't it be great to have such a contraption set up near the White House, with clowns wearing Bush and Mike Brown caricature masks?

Just imagine the publicity such an event would get throughout the Gulf Coast! Let's turn the tables on Dubya and his FEMA wrecking crew..

7. Honestly
I think it is wrong for anyone to try to converge any message on top of Cindy's.
Please let Cindy have Camp Casey.
Please let her message stay strong and on point.
Please honor the hurricane victims another way.
We don't want to cojoin these issues. Each needs to--and can--stand on their own arguments.
That is just my humble opinion.

9. So far the Mississippi DU forum is enthusiastic about Camp Katrina
There are only 2 replies but the are very positive:

"Awesome idea. You have my full support. It should be a full blown
DU co-sponsored event."

"Nominated. I have a large network of contacts and will help you
spread the word, if this takes off.

Be sure to tie it in to activities on Sept 24th, when you will have anti-administration activists in DC for the anti-war march and impeachment rally."

If our Mississippi and Louisiana DUers were lukewarm about the idea I would drop it. Instead I will push it harder.

10. These are BOTH massive issues!

One shouldn't supercede the other. YES, CAMP CASEY IS VERY IMPORTANT. But the HUGE loss of life demands that something be done! Giving money is great, giving clothes, food and your time is important. But you know what? THOSE GESTURES ARE NOT PUBLIC.

WE NEED AS LARGE, AS PUBLIC, AS GRAND A STATEMENT AS WE CAN MAKE RIGHT NOW.

If you can come up with something that will make a large impact, feel free to suggest it. Until then, I'm behind this idea.
