Why is DU and Daily Kos 'censoring' Katrina?

Madsen is reporting that readers should be aware that web sites like Democratic Underground are "locking" information on the radio jamming in Louisiana and the corruption involved in FEMA hurricane disaster preparedness (IEM Team contract). Readers should also be aware that the Pentagon's technology blockade strategy extends to the Internet. Web sites like Democratic Underground and Daily Kos have a lot of explaining to do when they censor critical information during a national emergency. These web sites, along with Fox News and the other news sources with overt and covert political agendas, are not serving in the public interest and should be avoided as sources for important information. For example, some Daily Kos posters are questioning whether FEMA deliberately cut Jefferson Parish's emergency telephone lines. That is because many of those involved with Daily Kos and Democratic Underground are squishy Democrats with a pretty obvious agenda.

I definitely believe it when it comes to bootlicker Kos. Try to mention Israel on his site and see what happens. But on DU? Hard to believe. I will postpone judgement until I hear responses. Is it true that this part of the Katrina story is being censored? I happen to know first hand that it's true. FEMA has sent in Halliburton thugs to terrorize the whole city. Alot of media outlets are reporting about FEMA cutting communications lines all week. Now we heard it first hand on Meet the Press. So whats the deal DU people?

By the way, since Bush's oil baron thugs have put in motion a fascist browshirt clampdown yesterday on information nationwide, I suggest you head over to http://nola.com/weblogs and read them before they get erased. dozens of message board posts of first hand testimonials of the Bush-FEMA-DHS-KBR genocide.

How can you censor the voices here? Most of us are pretty damn news savvy and wouldn't believe something unless there is good proof or eyewitnesses. I've never seen a more truth-demanding crowd as this.

After all, the Mayor of New Orleans said TWICE on television that he had heard that the CIA wants to take him out for going off last Friday. DID you see that? In fact, I read that on Kos. And I'm listening to WWLTV.com and they just reported that the 'looting' is pure propaganda. The chief of police just said that.

Which is the exact point. Instead of all being locksteped RNC Bushbots who are all programmed, here at DU there has always been disagreement. Disagreement IS Democracy.

I thought it might have started happening because the RNC and Bush have been using DU posts for their twisted reports on FNC. They find the most outlandish and say that all DEmocrats are reporting this. Which if you believe in the first place, you would NEVER be or vote Democrat. But maybe DU and Kos fold under that bluff.

REPOST: Eloriel's thread. Plus a word on conspiracy theories
I want to be clear: at the beginning of this whole disaster I reminded the moderators to remove particular topics of discussion which we have removed in the past. This week has certainly demonstrated - again - that the Bush administration is criminally incompetent, but we are not going to be hosting discussions about weather control any time soon on Democratic Underground.

Earlier I removed a thread by Eloriel which had been previously locked. At first glance this thread appeared to be inappropriate, specifically because of the premise that the Bush administration deliberately planned the poor response as some kind of social experiment.

However, DUers were using this thread to build a large and useful collection of links, and attempting to create a timeline of events. As a courtesy I have spent some time recreating the links from the deleted thread and they appear in the post immediately below this one.

We have also instructed the moderators to back off a little on locking threads. I hope you can understand that this has been an incredibly difficult time to moderate the message board, and the moderators and administrators have been doing the best they can under very difficult circumstances. Inevitably there will some arguments about threads that were locked which shouldn't have been, and threads that weren't locked which should have been. We appreciate your patience as we continue to try to work through this, and in particular we would ask you not to repost threads which have been locked. Please contact me directly if you have a question about a locked thread.

As stated in the 2nd paragraph. You have to be living in a dream world if you think the Bush admin isn't criminally complicit in the levee flood of NO.

I don't want DU to become a wacko site. It could easily become discredited with some wild claims. A few right wing stations or websites publish those threads and soon DU is some radical site with questionable integrity. That being said you still need room for new theories to be worked out and become legitimate news.

So give the admins some room. They may error one way or another from time to time. But overall they do good.

The Dems have been spineless for too long. I am so sick of watching Dem leadership flinch to all these ridiculous games by the right. To not talk about criminal complicity possibilities of the Bush admin, OR Clinton for that matter, is straight fascism.

I don't know if it has been locked. But I have found myself wondering a couple of times now (not only with info coming out of NO) if some of our moderators are infiltrators and locking threads to censor information?

I haven't been on this board all week. So you're telling me that all week you've only seen one thread of FEMA cutting communications? For christs sake, the head of Louisiani EMT said on MEET the PRESS that FEMA cut the New Orleans Police Communication lines just this morning. He said they had to post armed guards after they reconnected. This is sad. I'm going to try to find the DU admin and hit him up.
