Is AOL pulling a Comcast - censoring emails?
Edited on Sun Sep-04-05 04:44 PM by shance
Anyone else noticing trouble with emails being returned that have been sent to AOL addresses?

I sent an article to a few of my friends regarding the troops and Katrina and it went to all of my friends except the addresses to AOL.

I tried it again, with just a couple of email addresses to AOL and they returned as well.

Que pasa?

1. Stupid AOL is always having problems! That;s why I won't deal
with their services! Many, many years ago, that was my first account on the net, then I learned a bit about what I was doing and dumped them! They're worse now than they were then, and that's been about 10+ years ago!

I'd bet their either having server problems, or the've put in some damn new spam blocker that blocks everything except spam!

9. I hate having to use AOhell
and have tried many times to cancel, but they just refuse to do so. The scripted robot on the other end of the line just will NOT let you do that. I can't get away from them.

NY just settled a suit with them for doing just that, rewarding customer service employees for turning cancellations into continued service and firing or demoting those who don't turn a certain number of cancellations into continuations. Also, they were nailed for continuing to bill customers after they'd cancelled their service.

12. Call your credit card company and tell them about this,
tell them you have demanded that your service be cancelled and they continue to bill you, they will stop the payments.

10. I don't like them either and don't use them
So I couldn't say. When my family and I first got the internet we had AOL as well. Later on I learned about cable internet and we have comcast, but I don't use their Email services. I use Yahoo.

2. I know I know
it stinks but I do still use AOL because of the security of the mail and only for that reason (I had problems before with another). I have never had these kinds of problems with them and believe me I have sent some scathing political things over their servers and received them as well.

It would not surprise me but just letting you know that I have never had that problem.

4. Maybe

If they are it is probably using software to detect keywords (ie. Katrina, hurricane, impeach the fucktard chimp etc etc).
Maybe even because of the links.
I don't know how if they would really do something like this, or think they would get away with it, but try sending a test email, "Hello" in the title, and "Test" in the body".

6. I just had a problem with my buddy list and lost some favorites. It seems
that those files are missing, and I haven't a clue where.

Ministry of Information (or the PNAC propaganda machine).

8. I dunno about censoring...but AOL has always been notoriously
fucked up.

I had them for a few years...and even back then, in the Clinton years, there were things that I didn't get, or sends that didn't work.

Their proprietary email protocol is laden with glitches and limitations.

One of the many, many, many reasons I gave them up.
