12. Or maybe...
...invites some of the displaced citizens to stay in their spacious spare rooms. I saw the piece and that house looked huge.

3. CNN has been doing an excellent job, perhaps they did it to contrast the
differences between the haves and have nots. We need them on our side.

5. And they did show the contrast
in that same broadcast. They showed a man walking down the street with his little son. A reporter stopped him as asked what he had been through and how he was doing. He started crying and said that the house had split in two and his wife was drowned. He sobbed that he couldn't hold on to her and he couldn't find her body. The reporter repeated, "You can't find your wife?" Her voice was shaking.

The man wandered away, saying, "I'm lost, I'm lost." The reporter had tears streaming down her face.

That broadcast showed how very many people thought they would be okay staying in their houses. I am terrified that the death toll is going to be tens of thousands.

10. Only 300,000 evacuated from a city of 500,000 before the storm
Edited on Sun Sep-04-05 07:13 PM by bring_em_home_bush
How many survivors have been evacuated so far? Far from 200,000.

And that's not even counting the 'burbs.

6. Agreed, CNN has done an excellent job re Katrina's aftermath
I truly believe that they compare and compare and contrast some "stories" ... They ran a story about people at the RITZ being rescued and already at home on the East coast, btw. stories of buses arriving at the Astrodome and being turned away ...

Perhaps I'm giving them too much credit, but they really seem to be highlighting "preferential" treatment of rich and poor ... with these stories, carefully tucked in between stories of total ruin.

11. That compare and contrast was very revealing.
I don't know if it was done deliberately, but it highlighted the inequalities, IMO. I have to give CNN a big  on this one. If they'd can Leslie Blitzer and his little clones who pop up on the screen now and again, I'd watch them, again.

14. Better put some cops around that house....
'cause some high spirited citizen might need firewood.

Just the opinion of a N. California native.

15. A different perspective
I saw the story you are talking about, but I did not have your reaction. To me, I just saw people who were so happy to see their home was still standing. I did not think about what their income was or the color of their skin; just saw folks glad to see they had not lost everything. CNN has also showed people from the wealthier neighborhoods whose houses are completely destroyed or have disappeared.

Just my 2 cents.
