ABC/WP POLL : 55% Bush not to be blamed
http://abcnews.go.com/US/HurricaneKatrina/story?id=1094262&page=1

Views of Hurricane Response

Yes No
Federal government adequately prepared? 31% 67%
State/local government adequately prepared? 24 75
Blame Bush? 44 55

Other evaluations are divided. Forty-six percent of Americans approve of Bush's handling of the crisis, while 47 percent disapprove. That compares poorly with Bush's 91 percent approval rating for his performance in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, but it's far from the broad discontent expressed by critics of the initial days of the hurricane response. (It also almost exactly matches Bush's overall job approval rating, 45 percent, in an ABC/Post poll a week ago.)

34. Bushes response might not have been different
but the poll probably would have, I can't see any other factor that would explain why Bush wouldn't take a huge hit on this other that most of the victims are african-american.

9. Way too many people want to blame Chertoff & Brown, not Shrub.
I guess everyone has forgetten that the top dog is responsible for what his subordinates do!

I know that sure happens in the business world, and I'm amaized that most Pubs don't accept that in Gov't too!

Our dumbass appointed wealthy idiots to power positions, and now wants to back away from the problem when they can't or won't do their job!

Shrub keeps claiming that he is the CIC, and a World Leader! That means he's claiming to be the big boss, and if failure happens, it's HIS FAULT!!!!

not have created sympathy through fear.

Tally ho & away! Bush just got a huge infusion of fear in his "bank account". 9/11 was not paying off anymore.

18. the word "blame" is screwy
and what was the actual question? You'd think if they chose this result to highlight in their headline, they'd print the actual question. All it says is "blame Bush?" in a table.

21. Folks, America will NOT let go of this mass delusion
I've heard it so many times before -- "this is the end for BushCo!"

I don't believe ANYTHING could derail this maladminstration -- not entrenched and blatant corruption, not an illegal war and thousands of dead, not the outing of our own intelligence agents, not the willful destruction of the environment, not even the racist genocide in NOLA.

There is no crime so hateful, so vile, so enormous, which would cause the people of this nation to rsie up and scream, "Enough!"

Impeachment? You've got to be kidding. Won't happen. As another poster on DU put it, "George Bush could eat the head off a live baby onstage and people would accept it."

At this rate it's hard to keep up any hope of a positive future for this nation. If this is what the American people are willing to put up with, maybe we don't deserve better. Sorry, but I'm feeling mighty cynical right now.

:(

25. I think you are right
Bush represents ONE side of America, they identify themselves with his values. The worse it gets, the more they are going to stick to him, because they don't want to see the UGLY truth, it hurts too much.

This is an, historical pattern, it's not the first time. Look at teh Milosevic saga : he started 3 wars, he ruined his country, he lived on nationalistic ideals and his corruption was widely known. He was turned in to the Hague several years AFTER his country was bombed back to stone age by NATO, mainly for the reason that the EU threatened to starve the country if he wasn't turned in.

And he has still support in Serbia... even if he is out of teh game for good...

the Serbs have always felt the superiors one in Jugoslavia. They didn't want to see reality..

In the US it is much the same, until the DEFEAT is too big to bare...
Then maybe a new leader will change things... in the best case

30. This is such an obvious fake number, before the storm only 36%
of people approved of his job in general, do they honestly expect us to believe that now, by implication, more than half of people suddenly think he's doing a good job with this catastrophic failure?

It's laughable, but they do think we are all retarded.

32. Shows their True Colors
GOP values:

Partisanship, as noted, plays a huge role: Nearly three-quarters of Republicans approve of the president's performance, and two-thirds rate the government's overall response positively. About seven in 10 Democrats take the opposite view on both scores.

If this poll's lying, they're making Republicans look bad!

35. The number to look at is only 31% said we were adequately prepared
You can't blame Bush for Katrina but you can blame him for not being adequately prepared. He is taking a huge hit for this and one the MSM starts to investigate what happined and why such as Bush's dismantling of FEMA Bush will get blamed.

Dem's need to call for another bi partisan commission to investigate what went wrong. If they do the bulk of the blame will fall on Bush and his dismantling of FEMA and merging it with Homeland Security.

37. WOW, they polled a whole 501 persons, randomly
This poll is a crock, has NO validity.

This ABC News/Washington Post poll was conducted by telephone Sept. 2, 2005, among a random national sample of 501 adults. The results have a four-point error margin. Sampling, data collection and tabulation by TNS of Horsham, Pa.

Edited on Sun Sep-04-05 09:22 PM by nascarblue
Rove has been putting out fixed polls since Bush hit DC. Whenever there's a crisis and Bush has bumbled, that's the first thing he does. He picked it up when he was Lee Atwater's errand boy.

42. These polls will be manipulated to get the desired results.
Sure, the corporate media has had a spasm of accountability (especially those who actually were on the scene), but management will try to rehabilitate Bush's image. Contrive polls will be part of it, but they don't really mean anything as long as people don't fall for the scam.
