Next Wednesday I'm going in to Pascagoula, Mississippi.
Friends of mine in the debris cleanup business have been awarded the contract for Jackson County, Mississippi.

They have asked me and Miz t. if we'd like to work for them.
They estimate 5 million cubic yards of debris to be disposed of.
Where?
Nobody knows, yet.

We'll be helping them get an office and organization up and running, hiring sub-contractors, general gofer stuff, logistics, procurement.

It's sure gonna be "interesting". We're in Baldwin County, Alabama, about 80 miles east of Jackson County, MS.

As near as I can figure, we're the closest fully functioning government and infrastructure east of the Mississippi coast. Mobile County, between us and MS, still has some problems.

We are now a victim relief center. Miz t. and I spent the last two days at a collection point for food and clothing.

I had a little experience in debris removal operations after Ivan, which hit us hard.
This time I think we'll see bodies.
It's grim down here.

2. It is going to be a great adventure.
These people work 12/7.
I'm not sure if I can keep up the pace.

I met a lot of them after Ivan.
They work incredibly hard and they play hard.

I'm pretty sure we can keep up with the playing part.
I'm not so sure about the working part.
We'll see.

3. Sometimes I wonder about this place.
Not often.
Just sometimes.
I post about a real "reality' event, and I see stuff about FEMA cutting phone lines.
I dunno.
I just dunno.

6. No sweat with our place.
We gained two sections of somebody's dock that Miz t. has turned into a bayside deck.

7. Gotta say, we could use a few extra bucks.
Been friends with this couple for a few years.
Yesterday, she said "Hey, y'all want a job?"
Miz t. is great at office organization and management.
I'm the world's best gofer.
If it's procurement you need, just give me a computer, google, and a phone and I'm HELL!

5. That's great that you're doing that
I think that in all this mess, some people are looking for a fun, lighthearted diversion as a coping mechanism. Putting on the aluminum haberdashery and playing secret agent can be fun. Talking about getting gloves on and picking up the debris and probably finding bodies, not so fun. Try not to let it get you down?
