I do not have the words to express my shock and anger at how the Katrina aftermath has been handled. The response to this disaster on the federal level is a disgrace and the blame should be placed directly at the the doorstep of the Bush administration and FEMA.
It is not just Katrina that has caused death, but the bureaucracy that committed murder by their slow, woefully inadequate response to the hurricane and flood. The administration and FEMA knew this disaster was a possibility, yet chose to have no response for the critical first few days.
There were many who could have been rescued, but now cannot as they are dead. Six days later there are thousands of people throughout the south STILL waiting for food, for water, for rescue.
This administration has run on the theme that they are keeping us safe. Bush now says be patient, help is on the way, the government cannot do it all that faith based groups and private individuals must help. The message I am getting is we are in no way safe, and we are on our own.
May the Bush administration have nightmares of floating bloated corpses rather than dreams of the birthday parties and photo-ops they participated in while people drowned. May congress hold trials on the criminal accountability of FEMA and the Bush administration. May those involved in this catastrophe someday recover some of the hope and happiness they have lost by their abandonment.
Sincerely, extremely upset uppityperson
