I am paraphrasing but the old general was trying to put a happy face on New Orleans when the 60 Minutes guy interrupted him with the above comment. You could here a pin drop for what seemed like a minute.

7. Ladies and Gentlemen you are seeing the ultimate
between a rock and hard place inhabitant.

He knows what he's seeing and recognizes the vast negligence and incompetence that the WH displayed..

But, he can't really say anything, because said WH could distroy his distinguished military career in a nanosecond.

In the military, you respect the rank, even if you don't respect the man.

gwb as CIC represents that advice perfectly. MKJ

13. Not this one
I think he was picked because he's a charismatic character and a pliant stooge. They're hoping to reinvent some of that Colin Powell magic. Did you see that press conference today? Apropo of nothing, he suddenly walked everyone through Katrina's timeline, exculpating federal culpability each step of the way.

2. Reminds me of the General in "Dr. Strangelove" --
the one who is paranoid and thinks the water is being poisoned.

5. More a Col. Kilgore type
I did like him telling troops to put their guns down yesterday.

The only question in my mind was, did he do that out of respect for the citizens the guns were pointed at, or the benefit of the CNN viewers watching the scene unfold?

11. I believe he was truly concerned about the citizens.
Also, I'm sure he wants to become a 5-Star General. He only has three now. Has to tow the line ya know.

:)I wouldn't mess with the John Wayne dude. I'm damned sure he's one of the Good Guys.

Now I'll say what General Onry obviously had too much heart and class to say.

No more harm can come to them. They aren't going to get anymore dead then what they currently are. The truth can hurt and obviously people are Hurting enough. Instead of lobing that grenade at them. He ducked the comment and took the fire for the peoples sake. That is what Honorable Leadership is all about. Shouldering Responsibility.

I know it's been a while since America has seen a truely Honorable Leader. That is just all the more reason for America to learn how to act around them. We need them desperately and don't want to risk running them off. Even if Wild Horses couldn't drag General Honree away from his responisbilities. :)

...you know something Mr. 60 Minutes guy? If we would have had a full compliment of National Guard on standby here in Louisiana instead of having a third of them stationed in Iraq there might not be any bodies at all floating out in the street.

Good Guy?
