Uh oh, Lieutenant Governor of LA said something..umm..troublesome
Edited on Sun Sep-04-05 10:07 PM by steve2470
8:08 A.M. -(Lieutenant Governor Mitch) Landrieu: This was the largest, most gargantuen storm in history. Ninety percent of the harm, tragedies and deaths were because of things beyond anyone's control. About 10 percent will be because of what someone didn't do.

1. So that means...
If 1000's died, then 100's of deaths could have been prevented.

21. No, 90% was caused by the hurricane. The rest was Bush's fault.

4. No. Storm didn't kill people - the lack of control over the situation did.
And by that we mean LAW & Order.

Federal Government has ways & means to predict these things. They stood the troops down.

Bush proved today he can get through bureaucracy if he gives a shit. All flags will be at half staff till mid september. Took him less than twenty-four hours to work around that law.

6. Every news channel warned it was a huge storm two days ahead of time
and was headed right at New Orleans. FEMA should have had a plan ready as they had 48 hours to put one together! Bush was in charge of the Government and the Government performed miserable due to his policy changes and dismantling of FEMA.

I just watched today's Meet the Press........at the end of the show I just sat here and cried! I cried for the victims, the people who died needlessly and I cried for the grave disappointment our govt has become!!!!

I think of Chertoff not wanting to do any 'finger pointing'. Oh no! We wouldn't want to do that because someone in this administration might actually have to be held accountable for something!!! He kept saying now is not the time, now is not the time. Like he's so busy NOT doing stuff!!

At least I was glad that Louisiana is seriously looking into holding someone accountable!!!

I am so angry about all of this.........and I wasn't even there!! I can imagine how the people who feel, who actually were victims of this criminal administration!!!

9. bussing everyone out of the area would have solved 90% of what
happened to people. The rest, the days and days of fucking around is the fault of people. Nice try. 90% preventable, 10% not.

It'll be up to Congress to make official judgements of the federal efforts. Not the Lt. Governor or Jay Leno.

14. Heard the NO Mayor backing down tonight too
He got a shower on Air Force One. He apologized for badmouthing Bush. He said he got a lump in his throat because Bush has promised to rebuild NO as a shinning example, blah, blah. Don't hold your breath, folks. This will run off of W's back just like all other shit does. And, soon the media will return to it's senses, and praise him and damn Dems as losers with no ideas.............

28. The guy is a loose cannon and that's good when he says things we like
but quickly changeable. He is also absolutely covering his own ass. I do not blame the governor for anything but he is not blameless. Before it all happened I remember hearing him Sunday asking people to evacuate in a very low-key and matter-of-fact voice as if he was not quite sure they should. I was struck by both his manner and the fact that we had known NO was facing Cat 5 Hurricane already on Friday and it took him so long to tell people to leave. So while I was happy when he was at first saying what he was saying, I was also apprehensive that, like any good loose cannon, he would soon flip in the opposite direction. I saw him with Soledad on CNN this afternoon, and he was strategically planting the seed that it was between the governor and the Pres while he was just a victim of the whole mess. He was also taking the credit for making them talk to each other -- like he does in this interview. He actually sounded somewhat nutty.
