This might be my last post
These new rules are for childern. "Democratic Underground" huh? Oh my god, NO PROFANITY RULE!? Are you KIDDING??? Listen, I know one can get your point across without cursing...but come ON, we're not kids. This is pure, unadulterate censorship. Plus, define profanity. What goes, and what statys? Who sets the limit? What is your qualifications to set such limits? Yeah, I know what you're going to say, you own the board. Fine. That's not what I mean. Can we say Hell? Crap? Poo? Why all the sudden these new rules? There is way more intelligent conversation than name-calling and cursing, so I don't get it. I will not and can not in good conciense support rediculous assinine censorship of free thought.

1. You know that the rule only applies
to the subject line of the thread starter, right?

5. I am locking this thread.
I am sorry that you feel this way. But unfortunately, I don't think it will help us to have a whole bunch of threads about how much the new rules suck. We tried to do this in the most inclusive and least disruptive way we could.

There is more information about the rules in this thread:

Sorry.

8. Profanity? Well, just in thread titles
...which was always an informal rule (though frequently broken), which they've now expanded into excluding it from the body of the initial post. Not too draconian--those titles show up on the DU homepage.

But basically I agree--I voted "no" despite being dismayed at the recent torrent of candidate bashing and quoting from hard-reichwing sources as if they were reliable as long as they bashed somebody you disagreed with. But I value the authenticity here, which I think can be damaged by enforced niceness. I said, let's ride it out.

Still, the worst rule, in my opinion, is the one they ameliorated (#5) so I'm hoping the cure isn't worse than the problem.

9. perhaps censorship is an evil
but why can't you see that there are many other critically needed battles to fight ???

just because you can't f**cking use whatever language you wan't to, it seems disproportionate to dismiss the battle we're all involved in ...

people, families, are suffering with the worst unemployment since the depression ... the U.S. is increasingly hated all over the world ... our military is stretched way too thin pimping for bush's corporate buddies all over the planet ... we're looking at ripping away a century of progress in our nation's judicial system ... we increasingly are subject to a government that is auctioned off to the highest bidder ... and the very authenticy of our election process itself is under attack ...

i agree with you that censorship on DU is ill-conceived ... but to leave the DU community over one bad policy when there are so many more important battles to be engaged in with your DU brothers and sisters is a wee bit over the top ...

hope you rethink your position ... we need all the soldiers we can find ...
