An Apology to DU and Fellow DUers
Democratic Underground,

Last week, as Katrina was approaching land, I posted some rather offensive messages and sentiments. It took me seeing what Katrina actually did, and just how ruthless mother nature can be to make me realize that I was wrong about what I said.

This is why I want to say, if I offended you, I am sorry. I am still learning how to poke at sensitive subjects, and some just aren't meant to poke at.

I also have a bad feeling deep down inside about what I said, not only on here, but out in public. Therefore I am volunteering with the Navy to go help clean up and try to get some sanctity. I leave on official orders in 2 days.

Thanks
true_notes

1. I Don't Know What You Said -- You Didn't Offend Me
but, as a Quaker, I wouldn't recommend joining the Navy.

4. Withdraw your apology and resubmit it after Bush apologizes for

something. I suggest you have it inscribed on a metal disk and bury it in concrete vault somewhere, because you are going to be waiting a long time to re-post.

20. "Should I test the half-life of that metal?"
Integrity w/ some intelligence behind it and a sense of humor to boot !

Don't know what happened, but your words just now meant a lot to me, somehow.

Keep on touching people in a positive way !

7. I don't know what you said
But I admire your remorse and apology. We all make mistakes. Good people learn from them and try to make amends.

Good luck and remember to forgive yourself.

8. I don't know what you said
but Katrina has been a learning experience for me too. If anyone can walk away from this unchanged, I can't imagine. What you said doesn't matter, what matters is what you do from now on.

I know that I need help. I haven't been able to sleep and I have been drinking, lots. It hurts. It scares me. And I'm so filled with hate for bush and his like that I don't know what to do with myself.

I will spend today fucked up, but tomorrow I will sober up, go back to work. I don't know what I can do to make things better, but I will do what I can. I will write letters to my congresscritters and the media quietly and respectfully saying what is in my heart. And then I will do more, little things add up. I will do what I can. Today though, I'm fucked up.

10. Most people around here have never experienced a hurricane
and even fewer have ever been through a Catagory 4 or 5 Superstorm. It is hard to fathom how bad these storms are until after they hit. Don't beat yourself up too bad over it. Now you know better. Good luck on your mission and stay safe.

14. Like others, I don't know the background of this, but I commend
you for what you are doing now.

This is a very difficult time, and we all have that horrible feeling in our gut. Thank you for acting on your instinct and doing something tangible to help. I am afraid it will be a traumatic experience for you, and I hope you make it through okay.

Just remember that there IS good in the world, even though it is hidden much of the time, and DU is here for you to talk if you need to when you return.

Godspeed

18. An apology accepted
And frankly, I don't remember seeing your comments because there were so many insensitive ones made but I'm piping in here to tell you that your apology means a lot. Most people would just slink away, retire their moniker and come back under a different one. Thank you for having the moral integrity to apologize and best of luck to you!

19. Good on you
I didn't see your comments but if you feel you said something wrong and are now apologizing then you are a good person. This is in stark contrast to the administration of these here United States who are simply arrogant and ignorant imbeciles.
