The Democratic Senators had DAMN WELL BETTER MAKE AN ISSUE
out of Roberts lack of experience.

They've got the bastard now, all they need do is pounce. He has been appointed t the highest judicial position in the land with only ONE YEAR of experience.

the guy's got no track record on SCOTUS and they want to make him CJ? Very typical of Bu$h's MBA 'peter principal mentality."

3. The series of failures of Bush appointees in a crisis is my issue.
I'm seeing a pattern with agonizing consequences.

4. sadly
the signals are pretty clear that he will be confirmed. But I think people are giving too much weight to the Chief Justice role. He has little additional power than any other Justice.

6. Yes! Katrina showed us what we get with Bush cronyism
Rise up, people. Demand someone fair, with a proven track record. No more "healing," "coming together," or whatever the Dems have been trying to do. Stand up and fight for us, Senators!

7. Let him rot. Bush company isn't qualified to appoint anyone. We need to...
Keep on pounding them all until they resign, minimal casualties. :grr:

Just tell the senators to stall his nomination by pushing the record on civil rights abuses.

9. Roberts has the important experience.
He's has a long history of being a loyal republican party operative. That's all he really needs to qualify for the people who can nominate.

10. The Dems must unify on this. Our chances of having a
free America again are very slim. This is a filibuster moment. Let Frist threaten a "nuclear option." That is blackmail, pure and simple.

11. Earl Warren
architect of the 9-0 Brown decision, had no judicial experience when he was nominated by Eisenhower to be CJOTUS. He had been the governor of California.

Just FYI.

12. Alternative strategy: Let Bush appoint whoever he wants and then
wait several decades while the adverse consequences to become apparent and then go to the American people and say, "See! We told you that Bush was a bad guy and shouldn't be trusted. Well, we didn't exactly tell you, and, yes, we did kind of go along with most everything he proposed, but we knew in our hearts he was leading us down the wrong path and you should have known it, too. Will you elect us now?" This seems more likely than the pounce you're hoping for, though I hope hope hope I'm wrong.

13. I say link the hurricane to Roberts's conservatism
the hurricane is an indictment of the conservative philosophy.

15. Filibuster. If not now, when?
But, I doubt that the Dem senators have the courage to do so. Given their past record of excuse making and rolling over. I expect we'll hear the usual "not as bad as", "we have to be realistic", "choose our fights", "save it for something more important", and the other cop outs that flow so smoothly from the DLC and their allies and apologists.

16. If one rolls over enough, observers sometimes begin to think the reason is
complicity rather than cowardice. The Democrats, at this point, are reaching the point where they can be accused of the former rather than the latter.
