said he saw no advantage to federalizing the rescue operation. Guard control should remain at state level.

6. I started a thread too - here was my synopsis of what he said. It was
very clear.

An Admiral is giving an update to the press and was asked how federalizing the operation would help. His response was that it would make NO DIFFERENCE in their operations although he knew it was a big point of debate between the Pres, VP, Chertoff, Rummy, and Gonzalez.

That is what they were debating for days while people were dying. No additional actions from the Governor was required for the help from the Feds. They just argued over stupid bureaucratic details while people died.

He just blew away their excuse for blaming this disaster on the Governor. He also showed that the battle was at the very top of the Administration.

3. Northcom was tracking the storm through FL & had the ship following
the storm into the Gulf of Mexico. They were just waiting for the order to go in. Bush never gave order until it was days later and too late. :grr:

11. Admiral Keating was live on CNN/MSNBC on Mon. & said no orders given
until much later in the week. They were ready to go. I can't find a link right now.

4. Expect this Admiral to start
spending a lot more time with his family. He'll be meeting Babs Bush with her flak jacket on! When the reporters laughed at that stupid comment by Poppy this morning I wanted to hurl. Thank God Clinton looked pissed and serious.

5. This confirms that BBC report that NORTHCOM was on the ball
Admiral did not blame Bush but also said that "federalizing" the relief effort would do nothing to help the situation on his end.
