How to survive in America, the third world country
I am afraid that the Far Right's dream of turning America into a third world nation is quickly becoming a reality.

Here's how to survive WHEN, not if, that happens.

1. Befriend a Refugee NOW - America is already a refugee nation. This is a good thing. Refugees have the know how of how to survive in a third world country.

2. Don't be flashy - Basically, don't invite physical attacks on yourself or your property. If the worst case scenario happens, don't show that you have vast quantities of wealth or food.

3. Share - Not only will this increase chances of survival, it will create the community that can bring us out of third world country status.

4. Learn to use your feet - Gas would be extremely scarce in third world America.

5. Arm yourself - Don't go overboard though, remember rule #2.

1. Done.
Already have a nice little community. A little too flashy and outspoken but I do know how to live without.

Feet or horses, I'm beginning to think I should restart my breeding schedule that was put on hold during this lovely Bush** economy.

4. Learn the basics...
Befriending a refugee is helpful, but if there aren't any around:
Learn the Basics:
How to build a fire
How to get fresh water, when there isn't any around
How to grow your own food

I was listening to NPR the other day, some lady they were interviewing was going on about not having electricity, or food and was thinking to myself about how she could be helping herself. Then I realized, she's probably lived in the city all her life and doesn't know how to start a fire, or get fresh water, or cook without a stove. Then I realized I'd be in the same situation, if I wound up in a situation I'm not familiar with. I guess I've got some learning to do, too!!!

6. How many will avoid shelters due to the horror stories of NO?
When asked to go to a collesium, stadium or civic center to await relief, how many will avoid them out of fear? A LOT, I'd guess.

7. Fostering this "every man for himself" attitude
What the hell is it buying us? Ensured survival for the haves and have-mores?

We used to have a civil defense - such as it was. Wouldn't it be better if people got together in times of crises - for the survival of all?

Why aren't we talking about creating groups on the local level for civilians to be prepared and respond for the COMMON good? Why aren't we talking about creating and stocking shelters now, on the local level?

Instead of thinking about how you have to be one of the first to loot your local grocery store for water, you knew that the community was going to guard the store, and manage that resource for all?

8. Buy a bicycle.
You might need it later on. Get them while they are cheap. Keep some cash at home. A bank may not do any good when a natural disaster or nuke hits us. Some of the folks in LA learned this one.
