"There have been rumblings of a local/federal conflict here. A month or so ago, the Louisiana legislature passed a constitutional amendment requiring any new offshore oil and gas revenue to be put in a trust fund dedicated to coastal erosion. The Feds must have gone ballistic at such effrontery from a state that actually believes in state's rights."

have been enemies of big Oil for a long time. What with trying to live there and all.

That is definitely part of the story too. How punitive groups like big oil, Bush, Rove, sociopaths, prigs, prisses, Repuke millionaires are.

Punitiveness is something that needs to be discussed. And I am sure it will be in the months to come.
