I have a question about the rescue operation I hope is not dumb.....
Why haven't they sent in hundreds of row boats to get the people out of their houses?......I mean without motors they wouldn't interfere with each other...You see the odd one meandering around in the TV pictures, but why not a whole flotilla of them?....

1. I'd imagine
Because it would take some very fit people to do it over and over. Also, it's probably thought that those motorboats are faster. People need immediate medical attention.

2. But it doesn't seem as if there are many motor boats either.....
With the thousands that are still in there, they need more boats or time will certainly run out, don't you think?

4. Of course a small electric trolling motor mounted on a rowboat would
do the job nicely. Not quick, but it would work and is designed for water with all kinds of crap in it.

3. They turned away all local efforts at rescue
A "floatilla of aid" TURNED BACK from New Orleans A group of approximately 1,000 citizens pulling 500 boats left the Acadiana Mall in Lafayette this morning (Weds.) and headed to New Orleans with a police escort from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Department. The "flotillia" of trucks pulling boats stretched over five miles. This citizen rescue group was organized by La. State Senator, Gautreaux from Vermilion Parish. The group was comprised of experienced boaters, licensed fishermen and hunters, people who have spent their entire adult life and teenage years on the waterways of Louisiana.
