Are You Sick of Paying for "Red State" Disasters??
I do not begrudge one nickle of monies/help going to those poor in New Orleans and around the Gulf Coast--in fact, we owe these people a zillion times more for the utter criminality of our regime's neglect. BUT, there is one thing that is right on top of my "this pisses the hell out of me" list:

Those red states are filled with pious, non-poor, sons of bitches who not only spit on "bleeding heart liberal commies" from other parts of this nation but call us traitors and unAmerican. We are accused of trying to turn this country into some Soviet Union West if we talk about universal healthcare, saving SS/medicare, minimum wages, etc. To them the only "good" government is "no" government.

Yet, I swear we are having a "once a week" red state disaster. If it isn't a hurricane, it's a tornado. Once in a blue moon, a blue state is struck (fire, or mudslides, etc.). But I have yet to see any of these red state Bush butt lickers say "get the hell out of here with all the Federal money and assistance because we don't believe in big government". No, just like all the other "projects" going their way, they readily stand in line and demand their handout. Where's the self-reliance and the "if you take gov money, you're a bum"?? It's as fake as their so-called religion...............and as a Blue Stater, I'm growing sick of it. Or, shall I say, that if you insist in building in nature's way, then where is all this "responsibility" you preach and why are you asking the nation to bail you out??? Unfortunately, the ones who suffer there are the poor and the minorities; and in the end, they will get only the crumbs from the golden plate.

23. Considering that I am in MS, that's a big NO!
This red state/blue state crap is starting to piss me off.

Well at least the dissing MS part, we have the most liberal youth of all the red states. 18-35 year olds voted over 60% for Kerry.

So, stop dissing MS!

33. I complained about Homeland Security, not Mississippi.
And I believe we all paid for disaster relief since Homeland Security is well funded. Mississippi was badly treated by Homeland Security, not by the taxpayers.

In case the name doesn't give me away, I'm in Texas. I hope your part of MS is doing better than many I've seen on the news.

When it comes to natural disasters, it does not discriminate against the political demographic of the geography (although the federal response might).

Although you did not intend this to be flamebait, it most certainly is. And will rightfully be locked.

6. No, not really
I'm a so-called "blue stater", but I can't paint everyone in the South with one broad brush like that. I lived in Texas for 8 years and I learned that even if many people in one state fit some kind of stereotype, there are still a lot of good people in every state.

The one thing that's significant to me about the fact that red states were harder hit by the hurricane is that perhaps Bush's terrible response to it will turn some of those states blue in the next elections.

The people who instigate regional conflict are always very careful to conceal where they happen to live. You can count on it.

And, come to think of it, the only people I ever hear complaining about their tax dollars being used to help people are...well, I won't go there, but you know what I'm thinking.

When I go to profile it asks for things like name, etc. Are you putting your name, address and phone number on the web??? But, gasp, if all else fails...try reading. I'm saying that the poor are not going to get this money just like they didn't get the help. But those who keep putting Repubs in office see no double standard about accepting government help. Yet, they are pissing on these poor people for any government help they have.

I would like to see more intelligent design and siting of urban/suburban developments.

Americans like to live on the coast, If they chose to live there they should pay correspondingly higher insurance rates.

If their property is lost, it's because they took a calculated risk.

Would I deny them aid to protect life? Only if I was a psychopath like *.

22. It's not red or blue,
us or them...it's Americans. They need our help, and our national conscience (what little is left) demands that we help.

Don't paint it that way...there shouldn't be any kind of test placed upon the voting or beliefs of the victims of natural disasters...Nature is profoundly indifferent to factors like those, and we as Americans should be too.

28. When NYC was hit, everyone helped out
Charleston, SC, not exactly a blue city, donated a fire engine in repayment of one donated nearly a century before to that city when it was in need. The generosity and genuine sympathy I found in other people toward what we were experiencing in New York was overwhelming. They brought tears to my eyes more than once.

There are meanspirited rednecks in every state, and many red states are almost evenly divided. I don't want to sit in judgment of others, and I don't want them judging me.

Those people who want to help, help. Those who don't, don't. Red state or blue, there's good and bad all over. I'm giving back no matter who is at the receiving end.

29. Nope. We've got a responsibility to help our fellow humans.
I believe we all have the potential for turning our negative traits into positive ones. Even Dumbyass and his rethugs have this potential, but we can't risk the possibility of our nation's destruction before they figure things out.

The bunch of them needs to be removed from office immediately, and neocon "churches" need to start paying taxes or stop preaching politics.

35. Your "poor" fellow humans are not going to get this money
but the ones who do not want to do anything on a national scale, like healthcare, are going to benefit so that they go out and vote again to deny monies and help to the poor. Maybe "help" should be means tested.
