Olbermann Did NOT Call For Bush's Resignation
He, very eloquently, spoke of the failure of this administration and the utter incompetence of its members, including Bush.

But, he did not call for resignation or impeachment.

If you want to read what he said, on air, go to his blog, as it is almost word for word what he spoke.

I don't think people should be posting misleading things about what anyone says, much less people who are on our side and are our allies.

16. I've watched the video clip twice to make sure...
He didn't call on Bush to resign, but he called him Marie Antoinette (we all know what happened to THAT cake lover....) and spoke of the government's credibility possibly being rediscovered in the NO muck in ...maybe...the year 2021.
Frankly, I don't think he needed to call for a resignation....I've never heard such a powerful indictment of a public figure and a ruling administration on TV in my life. He quoted Churchill's great statement that the first and absolute responsibility of government is to protect the people...and pointed out that the Bushies have failed miserably .It had me crying, actually. I shall now sign off and write several thank you emails to msnbc.

24. Yes, but its the video.
I watched it in the first TV broadcast and heard from others, who have said something similar by email. And like he said he did say something to the attune of "you might as well give up, (throw in the towel) if this is leadership. And one day your credibility will be dragged out of the Louisiana wreckage."

Something like that, it was not identical to everything he posts on the web. I wish someone TIVOed it live to capture the whole thing.

9. Me too, I rewatched my own copy.
The video and the transcript are nearly identical, and the ways in which they differ are not substantial ones.

I say this because we don't need to have rumors spread that MSNBC "whitewashed" anything from it later or that anyone else did a la Kanye West.

Thanks for starting this thread to whoever did, because if you hadn't, I was about to.

12. You don't need to think about it
look at the video it is a freaking fact HE DID NOT CALL FOR RESIGNATION. He didn't say it imply it or come close to it. The other post that said he did was BS. I only hope that not too many of us sent an email to Olbermann thanking him for calling for the freak in chief's resignation - it would be quite embarassing - since he didn't!!!!!

13. The blog was not whitewashed.
I have to say this because MSNBC apparently isn't rerunning Countdown tonight so people will miss this unless they watch the posted video anyway.

This is the fact: I watched my tape of the commentary while reading the posted blog. Neither calls for resignation or impeachment. Neither. Strong words are definitely said...everything but...but neither contains that phrase.

I say it in the interests of preventing rumor spread, and in the interests of truth. That is all.

Just search the transcript text after seing the video, which obviously does not show him saying that.

And I'm with you, he did not call for Shrub's resignation--he just called them incompetent.

He was basically saying he might as well resign because he sucks big time even if those were not his exact words we all know what he was referring to. What else would "Throw in the towel" mean?

resignation - not there
towel - not there
throw in the towel- not there

I searched the text for thes words using the search function I've read the thing twice and listened to it twice. He did not say this and we need to stop this BS

It makes no sense!

I mean, it's cool to post whatever you want I suppose, but so much of the traffic that is pushing us to Level 3 is such crap that if those people just went and got a life instead of trying to sabotage our happy family here, it would be much nicer. I may have to start ignoring people soon - this is getting SO ridiculous!

I didn't get to see the show tonight and I really got worked up about hearing that KO asked for his resignation.

Please, please, please people try not to post misinformation anymore!

34. And what does it matter if he did or he didn't?
Olbermann's great, but he's just a talking head opinion guy. It's nice to hear our disgust well expressed, but it's absurd to react to his remarks as if they're some seismic political event. If Harry Reid had called on Bush to resign -- or even said it was time for him to "throw in the towel" -- that would be a major political event.

38. They may not be a seismic political event
but it's great to hear them said by ANY journalist.

Also, consider what happened to Joe McCarthy after Edward R. Murrow finally had the guts to say about him on CBS what many people believed secretly, but were afraid to say.

And, just for the record, he never used any phrase referring to towels or the appropriate time for throwing them in.
