Barbara Bush's statement much worse than what E&P quoted

http://atrios.blogspot.com/2005_09_04_atrios_archive.html#112597122217543452

E&P actually softened the quote. The full quote is:

What I'm hearing which is sort of scary is that they all want to stay in Texas. Everybody is so overhwlemed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway so this (chuckle)--this is working very well for them.

waste her "beautiful mind" over saying things like that publicly, and neither do the rest of that sociopathic, inhumane family, because they know the media won't report it much, if at all, and they know they can count on getting away with it due to the media's enabling.

I can tell you, there are hundreds helping the people at the Astrodome. What you are seeing is the country rotting at the head. The people at the bottom - our troops, our citizens, the people cleaning up the administration's mess - are where the hope for saving this country lies.

It's not geography. It's the aristocracy.

84. Thanks...it is time that we put aside some of our own stereotypes.
The people in Texas have been quite welcoming and generous as have people from all over the South and the world as a whole. There are the people who can become our future political allies...and they might just do it if we stop throwing slurs at them.

133. So, we shouldn't
tell the mayor of Tulsa, OK, where to get off for holding a press conference to "reassure" his "people" that Tulsa had no plans to honor any requests from the Red Cross or FEMA to handle any refugees (translation-we don't want any of "those" people here), and that they wouldn't make any of their "facilities vital to the economy of this city" available to the refugees, where to get off? And his "people" who overwhelmingly supported him and ignored fellow Americans in need so they don't have to be bothered by "those people?"

134. Absolutely we should shout those things loud and clear! My
concern is the possibility of alienating a lot of ordinary folks who are reaching out to the destitute survivors. They are seeing first hand what has happened and starting to question everything. This just does not seem the time to bash southerners in general, or Texans or anybody but the Bushco cabal and his puppet masters. They have played the non wealthy off against each other with wedge issue for years. I think we can stop some of the diviciveness and start the reunification of the oppressed.

139. Exactly! Don't play the hate!
I am a native Pennsylvanian living in Georgia for almost eight years now. There are a lot of things that "southerners" do that still drive me nuts, but other than voting for *, most of it is second-rate stand-up comedy stuff -- like "southerners don't use turn signals."
Fact is, they don't, but there are still many good people down here, even among the magnetic-ribbons-all-over-the-back-of-my-car, bush/cheney-2004 crowd. I am the lone leftie at work, and my coworkers are as heartbroken as any of us at what has happened in the last 10 days. THEY ARE ALSO STARTING TO OPENLY ADMIT THEIR DISSATISFACTION WITH BUSHCO AS A RESULT. I swear...heard it first hand. I make jokes myself sometimes, but most southerners are not closet klansman and they don't want to return to separate drinking fountains or anything like that. There is no reason to alienate them just as they're clearing their heads of 5 years of */Rove propaganda. Think how tough it must be for them, after convincing themselves that * was the Vicar of Christ, to come to the realization that he's a boob. Many southerns feel left behind by Dems, and as a result embraced rethuglicans who don't actually give a damn about them. But they're waking up to this now and we should welcome them, welcome them back, whatever. That's my 2¢ for this morning...gotta go to work.

I'll probably be kicked off my neighbhorhood board b/c I called someone a loser after he kept pointing out that people were warned 2 days before the storm to leave.

But I'll tell you what- if these assholes can say this sort of shit, I'm not going to candy coat anything I have to say. I am sick and damned tired of acting like all opinions are reasonable and valid because, God damn it, they are NOT. Not when it boils down treating other human beings like so much waste that takes too much time to be bothered with.

And another damn thing. I'm going back to CHURCH!!! You bet your sweet ass I am. I'm tired of letting these people define what is moral and Christian, when nothing they do is either.

I've stayed away from church, but not faith, for years because of the right wing takeover.

Started back with an Unitarian Universalist congregation -but it's not in my community and I miss the involvement near my home. It was an important part of my youth, and I want it again.

I'm looking now for a spiritual home in my little town, and pray for the strength to voice my views among the predominantly RED congregations.

Let's get back out there before it's too late!

and don't forget this bit of news

Former President Bill Clinton discussed his relationship with President Bush's father last night on CBS LATE SHOW.

Clinton: "I think we're good friends. I like him very much. I've always liked him. When he was vice president, I was still a governor. We worked together on a number of things. He hosted the governors, in 1983...at Kennebunkport."

When they made an announcement about raising funds for Tsunami relief in Houston former First Lady Barbara Bush "announced us. And she said she has started to call me son. I told the Republicans there, I said don't worry, every family has one, you know, the black sheep. I told them, this just shows you the lengths the Bushes would go to get another president in the family. I wish I could get them to adopt Hillary."

Clinton looks really pale -- stark white hair matches stark white face, a bit out of breath. Damn.

I'm quite taken aback at his somehow being gulled into thinking the Bush family could EVER be his friends -- Babs in particular calling him "son" means nothing, except maybe a lure to get in close for the kill. Bill, how could you even think it???

However I'm not going to waste my time and energy flaming Bill Clinton -- if he keeps looking that bad in public I don't think he's going to be with us for long. Damn.

95. I don't think he is fooled ...

Clinton is smarter than that. He is "playing the part" and being diplomatic and cordial. You know that thing called diplomacy and tact which Dubaya has a complete LACK THEREOF.

Clinton probably looks bad because the weight of these tragedies do weigh on his heart. It's obvious he is working WAY HARDER than DUBAYA and the man is retired.

Dubaya only started looking haggard during the re-election. He doesn't give a shit about the people of this country. 9/11 didn't weigh on his soul, neither did Cindy Sheehan (shit even Nixon went out and spoke to protesters). Bush only cares about HIMSELF. The only way we'll see him haggard and worn again is if the Democrats win in 2006 and get impeachment proceedings underway.

I certainly don't agree with everything that Clinton did. But when it comes to competency, Bill is 1000% more competent than Dubaya and his whole staff put together.

108. No, I think it's quite revealing.
I suspect that somewhere deep down in his subconscious, Poppy Bush is appalled at the mess his son Georgie is making of this country. It's one thing to have a kid who's always screwing up; it's something else when his screw-ups and hostility affect the whole world. How many parents can even recognize -- let alone admit -- that one of their children is a sociopath?

Maybe they "adopted" Bill Clinton as the son they wished they had. At least Poppy--it's hard to credit Barbara with any positive impulse.

Barbara Bush: Things Working Out 'Very Well' for Poor Evacuees from New Orleans

By E&P Staff

Published: September 05, 2005 7:25 PM ET updated 8:00 PM

NEW YORK Accompanying her husband, former President George
H.W.Bush, on a tour of hurricane relief centers in
Houston, Barbara Bush said today, referring to the
poor who had lost everything back home and evacuated,
"This is working very well for them."

The former First Lady's remarks were aired this
evening on National Public Radio's "Marketplace"
program.

She was part of a group in Houston today at the
Astrodome that included her husband and former
President Bill Clinton, who were chosen by her son,
the current president, to head fundraising efforts for
the recovery. Sen. Hilary Clinton and Sen. Barack
Obama were also present.

In a segment at the top of the show on the surge of
evacuees to the Texas city, Barbara Bush said: "Almost
everyone I’ve talked to says we're going to move to
Houston."

Then she added: "What I’m hearing which is sort of
scary
is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is
so overwhelmed by the hospitality.

"And so many of the people in the arena here, you
know, were underprivileged anyway, so this--this (she
chuckles slightly) is working very well for them."

Emphasis mine.

That's what I saw before I posted. This is the link:

http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1001054719

When I copy and paste into the browser address line, that is STILL what I see...

40. They DID change it -- but not the update time!
That's interesting -- I didn't do a screenshot or anything, but I saved a text version of the story.

I just went back and checked, and it does include the "scary" part now, checked old version and it didn't, but BOTH have an "updated" time of 8:00 p.m.

I imagine they got some emails about not at least ellipsing the quote since they had given a place where people could listen to the original, but I find it surprising they left the update time the same (should I?)

Dallas and San Antonio are already on the verge of 'goin' blue'.

Perry's numbers are in the toilet. Maybe the Dems (with the help of NO survivors who decide to stay in Texas) will make a bit of a resurgence.

and I don't think it will be just the survivors who move here tipping the scales.

Lots of misled middle class voters are disenchanted with the party of greed and corruption.

Our mayor, Bill White, is a Democrat. He's the real force behind organizing our shelters. Rick Perry, our governor, is a Bush appointee who couldn't pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were written on the heel. He's been absolutely useless - like his mentor.

96. Why couldn't the Bushies train Iraqis in the US ???

For the simple reason that all the our boot camps are in Red States. The LAST thing the Busheviks would want is for the rare english speaking Iraqi milling around George's base.

No doubt the locals would crowd around such and individual and start talking about how great their leader has been to Iraq. And then doubtless the Iraqi would start telling them the REAL STORY. And he would tell them how much they don't like the Bush's and how their management of Iraq has been 500% incompetent when compared to Saddam Hussein.

They would likely probably tell them that the ONLY reason they joined the military is because there are no jobs.

Bringing the refugees of New Orleans to Texas will have the same effect. It's the shocking reality of Bush's ineptitude. No doubt Mormons and Baptists "ministering" to those "saved" by Bush will get an earfull, and no doubt this will have SOME effect upon younger minds.

59. What, she didn't end her statement with, "...I'm through with you now."
According to many a peon, (Including Writer Dave Barry) that's how she ends conversations with people she has just met, but no longer has time for.

BTW, If you want to hear the FULL quote They played the recording at the start of today's "Marketplace" radio show from PRI. Here the link:

Houston, we may have a problem

<http://www.publicradio.org/tools/media/player/marketplace/2005/09/05_mpp?start=00:00:01:00.0&end=00:00:04:36.0>
(Listen to this story at link above) NOTE:Turn off any Pop-up blocker for it to work correctly.

More than 15,000 evacuees are camped out at Houston's Astrodome, and thousands more are spread across the state. Marketplace's Bob Moon reports that many of those in Houston are asking, why mess with Texas?

71. Read about the 13 Illuminati Bloodlines and Both Barbara and
GHW connections to - the reason why The DaVinci Code is coming out now after a first attempt Holy Blood, Holy Grail to link Junior as an offspring of Christ AND Satan. Read what the Knights Templar really believed.

GHW left off the Herbert to make Junior's name:

George - 6 letters
Walker - 6 letters
Busche - The original German spelling of Bush 6 - letters

Near the end of Revelations, last book in the Bible after all the descriptions of destruction of the Last Days the person responsible is revealed in a clue - the one known as the Beast and the anti-Christ

He who has wisdom know this that the number of the Beast is the same as a man that is, six, threescore and six - 666

Junior was brought up to be the anti-christ. On two other sites that did not mention the anti-christ connection that along with smacking junior at the dinner table and humiliating him in other ways, she called him The Chosen One.

Really read the history of this and think about it, Bush's speech writers quote the Bible but instead of ending as they should with the word God, bush will end the well-known Biblical quote with the word America and it is a short step to ending a Bible quote meant to show the authority of God with his own name. I think Common Dreams and other non-conspiracy sites have noted and written about this in his speeches which unless you are familiar with the Bible or can't stand to watch Junior, as I cannot, you would miss what he and his handlers esp. his satan worshipping father who is more the president than bush are doing to red staters who are fundamentalists.

Mind control, MK-Ultra programs brainwashing that goes beyond advertising.

It's actually sad that the mother of the President of the USA has so little compassion and empathy for other "folks". These displaced citizens have just been through a horrendous disaster; many have lost family members, have seen dead bodies and have lost everything they own, and this is the best she can do? She has foot-in-mouth disease as advanced as her son's.

She may have wealth, but she lacks class.

117. It isn't the "scary" part that bothers me
Because it could be interpreted on different levels. For a city to simply absorb that many people, most of them needing public assistance, creates some problems for government to respond effectively. Ok?

Everybody is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway so this (chuckle)--this is working very well for them.

This is the part that makes me want to puke. WTF? Was Bab's there to make sure there weren't any "good rich folks" who had to take shelter? I'm sure that would be terrible for them. But these poor black folks, well, they should be happier than a fly in shit.

120. I wish they would stop calling them
REFUGEES! They are citizens for crying out loud!

"Clinton said he thinks the federal government's response to the tragedy should be examined. But for now, he said, the focus should be on helping the refugees restart their lives. "

125. * family full of sick, racist bastards
As if we needed more proof of the REAL * family. This is just completely disgusting and she should be made to do an appology ASAP. These comments are far worse than anything Dick Durbin said so where are our leaders demanding a retraction of her callous comments??

hosed down with floodwater from New Orleans, but that would pollute that water, so maybe not.
