I'm still so sad and obsessed
I loved NO. It was magic. Especially at Christmas spent there in 1999.
Musicians on the street in the evening, everyone playing a completely different instrument and carol. Just wanted to share a couple of old photos and a weird poem I wrote to help myself sort things out...

While George eats cake and Condi buys shoes
Oblivious to Katrina news
A city gasps for one last breath
Teetering on the brink of death
On the street, without a home
They lock 'em all in the Superdome
Water everywhere, not a drop to drink
Corpses piling up and starting to stink
People are dyin' and thousands are hurtin'
They give 'em photo-ops and Halliburton
Icily detached and depraved from birth
These are the rapists of Mother Earth
They don't know what it's like, don't know what it means
To be a citizen of New Orleans
They don't know what it's like, they haven't a clue
Because it's all about them, not me and not you...

5. Blue...that was beautiful.
I'm sorry for your pain. I feel it too, but not as much as you, as I have never been there, but I know I will go when the city comes back (and it will!)

8. I really like your wierd poem, it is very touching and brings tears
to my eyes. Can we use it? Do you want a name on it? I would love to share it with some people who feel the same way.

Feel free to pass it on, pictures included if you like. If you want to attribute it, just MYvdH (small v and d) will do.

Edited to add: maybe with the title "New Atlantis"?

9. Your expression (poem) is not weird...
they're your sentiments and are spot on. We were in NO for a meeting a number of years back. Today I'm glad we experienced it. NO--a place unto its own.

10. You are a poet and a scholar!
Sometimes it is between the rhythm and the rhyme that the truth sneaks in!

May the poets and the Jazz abound!

And my King George the Shrivelhearted realize what he has done.
