New Orleans' Jews all thought safe
Though there is no direct count of the New Orleans Jewish community, a sigh of relief was heard Sunday from the head of the Jewish federation, now in Houston.

"I think we've got them all out," said Eric Stillman, executive director of the Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans, which is now operating out of Texas.

Meanwhile, Israel Ambassador to the United States, Dani Ayalon, told Israel Radio Monday morning that the two Israelis who have been missing since the hurricane struck, are still unaccounted for.

However, Ayalon expressed hope that they may have been evacuated to Houston.

Hopefully, other joyous news like this will come from NOLA!

1. Uh oh...
...reminds me of those rumors that floated about 9/11, how all the Jews who worked in the towers got phone calls telling them to call in sick that day.

Glad to hear about people who got out OK, but I don't think they should be holding press conferences about this.

We all better ask them what they want and give it to them fast....

3. Agreed...
...but you never know what crazy ideas will pop up. (Especially before I've had any caffeine.)

6. Use your head once in while. Everybody knew hurricane was
coming, unlike the 911.

8. *I* know this, *you* know this, but...
...will this somehow be distorted by Michael Weiner or Rush Limbaugh or someone? Will it be painted as "gloating"? Will they be blamed for not doing enough to help those who were left behind?

I'm not insinuating anything about New Orleans Jews. I'm glad so many of them are safe. I just don't see the wisdom of this type of announcement at this time.

7. International Blackout
I was listening to a Radio London talk show and people in Britain are very concerned...they're not getting answers in their inquiries about where loved ones are/were in NOLA or where they've been evacuated to.

One lady said she was able to track down people in Thailand and Sri Lanka in two days following the Tsunami in areas that had poor phone service, but can't get through to the World's richest country.

It's appearing this evacuation, as I suspected, is so disjointed and chaotic, it's now straightening out the confusion the evacuation is creating that the hurricane and flooding already had scrambled.

This is going to take months for people to get reunited and a sense of the worst is past.
