Shrub is going to get away with it.
I saw one poll that showed that 48% believed shrub has done a good job dealing with the disaster. How could that be? Truth is, there are a lot of smoke screens and distractions going up now. The media is talking about the mayor and others, but I've heard very little in the MSM about shrub's incompetence in this disaster. They only mention shrub when he goes to the gulf coast and hugs some people. They are almost completely ignoring the fundamental issue: why did it take so long to send in the military? (Once the military arrived the situation began to improve dramatically).

Many are saying that the people should have been evacuated before the hurricane, even some on this board are repeating this talking point; but no one is saying how the 200,000 people could have been evacuated in time. (200,000 in two days when it was taking several hours to get out of NO, and where do you take them?)

Shrub has gotten away with an abundance of corruption and incompetence in the last five years, is there any doubt he will get away with this? Yet, a couple of weeks ago, when I posted that we need a voice in the MSM, no one thought it would make a difference. We need a lot of voices in the MSM. The more the better.

1. Lots of smoke going up, for sure. I'll have to wait and see how the
story is reported in the following days and weeks. there's still a lot of people pissed. someone, prob. fema director or chertof, will have to resign so the question is whether people will settle for that or not. i hope not.

Second, don't let them get away with it.

10. I hate to say this...
but people ARE stupid. how do explain him being the CIC in the first place. People are still defending him and saying that they would vote for him again...He can do no wrong in their eyes...Not everyone is stupid, but certainly enough to get us where we are today.

I weep for the future.

26. I'm in a blue pocket of a red state, West Virginia.
I'm going to go out and sample the reaction of the people. I have a feeling that a lot of them are going to be pissed. I expect to find some Bushbots, but I'm prepared for that. I'm going to immediately cease discussin it as soon as it becomes apparent that I'm talking to an ideologically-blinded, heartless worshipper of Bush. But I still think that it'll be interesting to see Rightists as pissed at the idiot-in-chief as I am. How ANYONE could have watched those people suffering for DAYS and still support der Fuhrer is beyond me.

25. You are (sadly) exactly right!
If people were dumb enough to elect him twice (maybe there was vote-rigging in Fla in 2000, or Ohio in 2004, but it shouldn't have even been close in the first place), they will be perfectly happy to stand by him now. All the screaming from DU'ers, "name" Dems, progressive Media and websites will only serve to strengthen the meme that we're just about politics and don't really care about anything except hating Bush. Which for some of us may not be an altogether unfair assessment, frankly.

6. Evacuations should be nationalized, because you might have to take
people across state lines. And it should be part of any disaster preparedness program.

What if there's a dirty bomb in Chicago, for example? Leaving the evacuation to the MAYOR is a ridiculous idea -- it needs to be a widely coordinated effort.

You know if Cuba can do it, we can.

7. I don't think so.
I think if we have to get moveon.org or some other group to get some air time on TV and show what the people went through. It must not be forgotten. It shall never be forgotton...

9. I disagree completely
Absolutely EVERY newscast I have seen has nailed Bush for a slow response. The only blasting of the Mayor has come from Right wing radio. Also, every poll I have seen says just the opposite.

US soil will not be tolerated by their survivors, the Congressional Black caucus, the blogesphere and many (newly awakened) in the press.

17. Don't speak too soon
We have yet to really see the true extent of this disaster. We have yet to have scenes on TV of mass graves being dug or - more likely given the ground water problem - the funeral pyres going day and night to dispose of the bodies before they become a health hazard - we have yet to see this group of clowns try and figure out where to shelter, feed, clothe, and care for over a million people who have nowhere to go now (this includes all those folks who were able to get into hotels and such). We have yet to see the Baghdad like cluster fuck that rebuilding all this is going to be (with * and the VP's cronies more concerned with stealing government money than doing rebuilding) we have yet to hear from the survivors who were left to die by *. All these things are coming. The impact of Andrew on Bush the Elder took time.

we're all in shock a bit - we need time to comprehend what the hell just happened.

That just took by breath away.

We need to make sure it's not just Bush but the whole neo-con philsophy of how society ought to be in their minds that is what is wrong here.

24. Completely!
Doesn't matter what Oprah or anybody else says about it. Bushco controls everything of any importance. MSM is just looking for whatever will generate the most viewers, not the truth. SCOTUS fight is on, so all the Katrina stuff is for PBS to cover now.
