7. No, a debit card is simply a card that draws on pre-existing funds

instead of a line of credit.

A Visa gift card is a debit card.

For instance, a Simon Malls gift card is, in fact a debit card (and is labeled as such. I received one of these as a bonus when I moved into my new apartment. It's a debit card, but does not in any way link to my bank account.
