A co-owner of Shelbyville-based Gowen-Smith Chapel has been deployed to Gulfport, Miss., to help with recovery since Hurricane Katrina, and his business partner here has described the grim task there.

"DMort is telling us to expect up to 40,000 bodies," Dan Buckner said, quoting officials with the Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team, a volunteer arm of Homeland Security.

"Until they search each and every remaining house and remove all the fallen materials ... they will not know how many people are there," Buckner said.

"My personal opinion is they will be recovering bodies for 30 ... to 120 days," Buckner said.


We pray that this number is the "worst case scenario".

if New Orleans was flooded. The National Weather Service issued a stunning warning on Suday morning of the immense human suffering that could result from the storm. Also, LSU did some simulations about seven years ago, which estimated 100,000 dead if the city was flooded by a hurricane.

If I was freaking out about all this the day before the storm, why wasn't bush or cheney? If bush was told we could have tens of thousands of dead Americans from the storm, his lack of action and urgency should land him in jail for the rest of his life. If bush was not told, why did the people who work under him decide that he did not need to know?

All the photo ops in the world won't save bush when the reality of the death toll sinks in.

A thought about how they (the administration) could "hide" this number of dead from us. Since the evacuation was done so horribly, and it was nothing but chaos, when the body count starts rising too high, they could just claim that they don't know where these people are. That they're missing and probably were evacuated to god knows where.

Or am I too paranoid about what they'd do?

Updated daily. I want to see a counter on CNN and Fox so they can see the damage they have done from supporting Bush for 5 long years.
