Feingold in '08 is giving me some hope
Edited on Tue Sep-06-05 02:31 PM by cynatnite
I railed on the dem leadership hard yesterday and while I'm still not happy with them, I'm thinking of pinning a few hopes to Feingold in '08.

Yeah, I know it's a little out there in the future, but just having the spark of hope right now, feels damn good.

(edited for clarity)

WASHINGTON - By issuing an early call for a timetable to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq, Sen. Russ Feingold (news, bio, voting record) could emerge as the Democrats' anti-war candidate of 2008, in the tradition of Eugene McCarthy and Howard Dean.

Although Democrats have been critical of President Bush's handling of the war in Iraq, they have been reluctant to call for a timetable to leave, fearing it could reinforce stereotypes that their party is weak on national security.

Feingold, a Wisconsin Democrat who is comfortable on the outskirts of his party, counters that setting an end date in Iraq — preferably by the end of 2006 — would free U.S. leaders to focus on terror threats worldwide.

Right now, that sets him apart from other likely Democratic presidential candidates.

I'm curious as to why you thought Feingold would have voted for that.

OT, but I'm especially proud of Feingold for being the only senator to vote against the PATRIOT ACT.

4. Russ is a good guy, and a smart guy.
I'm willing to support him in a run, though the cynic in me says he'll never get the nod in the first place. (Though the optimist hopes I'll get to call him President Russ sometime before I die).

There's a festival this weekend in WI he's supposed to be at, and I can't wait to hear what he has to say.

6. Feingold's my choice too! I'm feeling better every day!
Now for those that cannot stand a non-married person in office, we need to help him find a great wife soon! Dennis Kucinich is now out of that dilemna. Hope Feingold can find someone that will make him happy, and help him get the presidency that he and the rest of this country deserves to have!
