2. I don't think collins is.
She's requested an investigation, but not independant, not that I have heard anyway. I checked her website too.

10. Yes both were on CNN this afternoon. Collins called response 'embarassing'
Liebermann and Collins were both very critical of the federal response. It was a good interview and response by both parties.

4. This is a Senate Commission, not an independant commission
It was asked by Frist, and they immediately started by saying they needed to wait.

5. Senator Dodd on C-Span today...
said that he didn't think it was such a good idea to have the govt investigating the govt. Don't know if he went beyond that though.

7. Found it.
Bill Clinton, rarely critical of his successor despite being a Democrat, also broke ranks, saying: “Our Government failed those people in the beginning. One hundred per cent of the people recognise that — that it was a failure.”

His wife, the New York senator Hillary Clinton, another likely presidential contender in 2008, called for a “Katrina commission”, adding: “It has become increasingly evident that our nation was not prepared.”

9. These days, the only independant investigations are ones done...
..sans any form of government.
