The announcement of ATM cards with $2,000.00 per "displaced person" is going to go a long way to helping these poor folks get their lives restarted..but out there is freeperville the have probably taken their shoes off so they can start tallying it all up....
Let's see....a mother with 4 children x $2k = $10,000.00..and apparently home ownership or rental makes no difference.. This is an emergency grant..
Of course the "evacuated-to towns/cities" expect these folks to head for the nearest walmart and pump $ into the local economy, but I think that these folks will use the money to somehow get themselves where they WANT to be...not where they were taken..
Imagine if extended families pooled their money and bought homes.. It might be the solution to the grinding poverty that so many of these folks have endured for centuries.. A lump sum, tax free, for a family is all that stands between a lot of people and their solvency.
I am loving this :) I know it's "blood money", but at least the people who desperately need it, and finally going to have more than pocket change..
You know too, that down the line, therer will have to be compensation for the loved ones they lost..
I bet ole *² is getting a talking-to about cutting levee repair money..
