Rush Limbaugh gives us a unique opportunity
Edited on Sat Oct-04-03 12:40 AM by syrinx9999
To grab America's naive majority by the neck and keep them. They've been fooled long enough and they know it. They are tired of being taking advantage of, and they won't take it much longer.

This is our chance to change it all. This is it.

Grab it and hold on.

2. I don't think so.
G. Gordon Liddy (what a creepy guy) was on CNN and he explained that conservatives in America were fed up because their viewpoint wasn't reported in the mainstream press. That is why Rush, his show, and other conservative radio blowhards are in demand.

I don't agree 100% with that but it may have some truth to it. They get the idea that they are the silent majority. That is complete bs.

3. Regardless of how this problem plays out for Rush personally,
I think his influence on the 2004 elections has been severely compromised. Will the Republicans and Bush want an alledged addict-rascist cheerleading for them next year?

Rush's problems are just starting I think, if the tapes are real and the prosecutors can prove their case, he'll be totally discredited in 2004....and that's a major victory for us.

That's my point.

Let's appropriate their votes. They are easily led.

4. I think we should all feign feeling really sorry for the poor addict
and offer up support and say how bad we feel that this proves anyone can become a drug addict ...

And how the important thing is to get treatment for drug addicts, NOT punish them.

Think anybody would actually listen?

9. Good Time to Get Drug Laws Overturned
Now is the time to capitalise on this man's (sad) misforutne but turn it into a boon. The Repgs and Freepers are probably seeing for the first time the pity that comes with drug addiction. Drug offenders (especially painkillers like Rush) need treatment, not prison time. Hopefully, this incident will open some eyes and we'll get mandatory minimums erased and drug laws overturned.

6. I may get hate mail over this,
Edited on Sat Oct-04-03 01:42 AM by lib4life
but I think we need to step back and think for a moment. Whether you agree with Rush's statements (I don't), I think its unfair for people to lose their jobs over controversial remarks. I really took time to analyze what he said, and quite frankly, there was nothing racist about those remarks. His comments were directed at the media, not Donovan McNabb, and I think it only fuels the stereotype of the "knee-jerk, PC-fanatical Left" that the Right has of liberals. His comments were stupid, but not racist.

I'm certainly not a fan of Limbaugh's politics, but this hyperactive PC bullshit has to end, and if it doesn't, people like Bernie Goldberg, Joe Scarborough, and Rush Limabugh himself will be proven right.

8. That's an interesting stance, lib4life...
...because I was just thinking yesterday that I'm SO glad people will NOT put up with public "spokespersons" making racist statements -- or inuendos! We live in a far better world because we have learned to watch HOW we say things.

And another thing, you are buying into right-wing ass-speak when you use the term "PC"; they came up with that to marginalize progressives who actually CARE about how public discource affects people.

Am I to understand that you completely discredit what Donovan McNabb himself said in response to Rush's statements? Oh, and for complete accuracy, Rush didn't LOSE his job; he quit. ESPN itself said it didn't get the chance to fire him because he quit first. Please make sure you have your facts correct.

I suppose you can characterize my post as "hate mail" if you want, but I hope you'll think a little more deeply about WHAT you are writing. And obviously, you are not black; if you were, I think you'd probably have a very different view of Rush, the singing asshole.

Rush did resign, but many were calling for him to be fired. I'm not defending what he said, but don't you realize how silly this makes us look? Donovan McNabb was right to be outraged because Limbaugh's comments were stupi dand wrong, but I think we need to be careful when we start calling people racists.

BTW, I am black, thank you very much, it's truly amazing how you can rail against racist statements, and make one yourself, friend. Apparently because I don't share your views, I'm not black enough? Get real.

15. No, it's not about whether we agree about our views...
...and it's definitely not about the amount of pigment in anyone's skin.

Rush said the media had a "social agenda" and "were desirous" of a black athlete doing well. How can you make ANYTHING out of those statements other than racism? You suppose the social agenda he was talking about was public education?

Rush's comments were basically a long-winded attempt of accusing the media of liberal bias. According Rush (not me), the media wants to promote the idea of black quarterbacks regardless of merit. I don't agree with that. I think Donovan McNabb any most other black quarterbacks who do well deserve the praise they get, and are not examples of a liberal social agenda. What I'm trying to say is that he was not making a racist statement, but a stupid political one. I don't agree with Rush on anything, but it's wrong to call people racist should because you disagree with them politically. That's al I'm saying. I'm moving on, I've got bigger issues to worry about than the mad rantings of one Rush Limabugh.

I'm with you lib4life, to some degree.

I've posted in other threads (ad nauseum) about how I think he was unfairly "punished" for a slightly offensive, media comment. I can't ever believe I would agree with Nachman, but he hit the nail on the head during his interviews on the topic.

I also might get flamed for this, but I'm sorry to say, but as a Eagles fan and Football guy, his comments were not far off. I think there is a bias in the media, but we need to address it, not ignore it, which is what we are doing.

12. Right. I agree.
I'm just saying that people shouldn't be punished unfairly for controversial comments, as stupid as they are, and we should careful when we use the racist charge. Rush will recover from this so I won't be shedding any tears, but this knee-jerk hysteria only gives the Right their ammo.

13. But .... Limpballs IS a racist. This time he just got busted
in a forum that was not his own show.

He's made plenty of racist remarks, comments, and "entertaining" jokes in the past (after all, he is an entertainer, right? NOT).

His comment was racist in that it was indicative of his paranoia that everyone's against the White Man. Especially "the media". Oooh, the poor beleagured White Man.

He's an asshole and he hung himself with his own rope.

May he rot in hell forever.

14. Rush isn't being judged on one isolated statement.
He's a racist. Let me say that louder: HE'S A RACIST! This is based on EVERYTHING ELSE he's said on television and radio, and written in his books.
