Univ of CA Sued
Here we go again. A group of lawyers representing christian schools in Ca are suing the Univ of CA system, saying that they refuse to certify textbooks that disagree with the theory of Evolution. So my question is, I thought this was the group that was all about standards and not letting activist judges force their will on the rest of us. This kind of stuff makes me sick. Fine let these kids go to college and be completly unprepared for what is going on. I had a kid in my freshman biology class 10 years ago that tried to argue with the teacher about that evolution was not true, and this same guy stood up one day in a geology lecture and informed the professor that the earth was 6000 years old and we would not believe that it was any older than that. What is with these fucking people?

1. It's serious, but get the facts straight
It's not about certifying textbooks

"LOS ANGELES - A group representing California religious schools has filed a lawsuit accusing the University of California system of discriminating against high schools that teach creationism and other conservative Christian viewpoints.

The Association of Christian Schools International, which represents more than 800 schools, filed a federal lawsuit Thursday claiming UC admissions officials have refused to certify high school science courses that use textbooks challenging Darwin's theory of evolution. Other rejected courses include "Christianity's Influence in American History."

According to the lawsuit, the Calvary Chapel Christian School in Murrieta was told its courses were rejected because they use textbooks printed by two Christian publishers, Bob Jones University Press and A Beka Books.

Wendell E. Bird, a lawyer for the association, said the policy violates the rights of students and religious schools.

"A threat to one religion is a threat to all," he said.

UC spokeswoman Ravi Poorsina said she could not comment, because the university had not been served with the lawsuit. Still, she said the university has a right to set course requirements...."

In other words, UC will not accept "science" courses that use certain textbooks, textbooks that teach "creationism". They have a right to do this.

2. um yeah
that is what I was saying, but I guess it is more fun to flame someone. I was saying what is with these people that they feel that their voodoo science should be accepted by everyone and standards should be lowered, that our Universities shouldn't strive for excellence.

3. No flames, hon. Just a plea for accuracy
This is an important issue. If you get the facts wrong, you jeopardize the understanding of the issue.

4. As a UC student...
to stand up in a bio lab or an organic chemistry lecture and say that God created everything would be an act of suicide. Not oly would you be laughed at bye all the professors, but you probably would fail the class. Teachers, especially at the UC level, dont like being told that all of their Ph. D work is based off a faulty premise. They take it really personally.
